Just like the title says... I've been using it on some Android phones and tablets but today it seems to have vanished from the Play store. I've tried from multiple devices.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that thread. What's really odd is they are still advertising it on their site but the links to the Play store are, of course, dead.

I guess it's time for me to start comparing the alternatives.

Try Sophos, it is just as effective and has similar features. It gets 100 percent at av-test.org

Thank you for the suggestion. Is it fairly lightweight? Based on the reviews, it looks like a few people are complaining about battery/CPU use on Sophos.

I felt that Avast was trying to do too much with the integrated anti-theft, etc. I'd rather use other apps for that but it looks like many of the AV apps are trying to be a Swiss army knife for everything security related. I'd rather see the AV app makers take a modular approach that lets users only install the components they desire but I haven't found any apps like that yet.

Currently Sophos seems to be using less cpu/battery than Avast does.

I'm using avast! since it was beta and it's great. And the Anti-Theft part seems the most advanced out of all of them. I don't know what happened this particular time, but developers often take apps down from GooglePlay if there is certain issue with it until they resolve it. It may not be critical, but they do it just to be sure.

I'm not seeing Avast cleanup at Google Play either.

It's still showing for me. Did you try the link in my post? Also are you in the US or possibly UK or some other Amazon site?

When I click that link here in the U. S. and try to order the software it says that I do not have any compatable devices. If I ignore the warning and order it anyway it never shows up in my Amazon app.

Can't really go wrong with CM. Try out their beta version as well.

So the big question is who pulled it from the store, avast or Google? And who did the notifying?

It is related to the way we promote the mobile app from our PC product. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Hopefully we will be able to resolve the problem very soon.

So Google's upset cause you're promoting from a non-Android/Chrome OS?

That feature is why I installed it. AFAICT they were first--at least for free if not entirely--to provide a feature-rich anti-theft and retrieval dealie...long before Google Device Manager.
    ...and totally root/custom ROM friendly

Losing [the data on] my phone is a greater concern to me than malware.

Avast AV shows as not compatible with my Kindle Fire KDX. Strange to me.
