I see that there are at least 10 or so failed Windows 10 upgrades, a few weeks back I un reserved my position so I can wait till they work all the early bugs out but now I see that Windows keeps trying to upgrade me to 10. How do I stop this? The check for updates feature has been "checking" for about 24 hours so far even with 2 restarts. This is bugging the heck out of me.

In windows updates, view your update history. If you find KB3035583, uninstall it. Restart if need be.
Hide KB3035583 if it shows up in updates again.

And on Windows 8, I keep receiving "Update to Windows 8.1 for free" notification 2-3 times a week... I have tried to update to Windows 8.1 for more than a year with disastrous results, therefore I've decided I will stay with Win 8. I'm more and more wary about MS forcing all these upgrades (they are definitely not updates) to Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Why is MS so insistent?

If you're running 7 or 8, I suppose one can just ignore the little icon in the tray, and ignore any other nags... That's what I'd do anyhow... Either that, or uninstall the updates that are responsible for serving up the annoyances.

Hahaha.. well, if it were me, I'd probably just try to forget the icon is there, and ignore any nags... :)

Upgrade to Windows 10 is an "Optional Update" in EVERY Windows Update. It is pre-checked. So when you install an Important Update first look at "Optional Updates" and uncheck "Upgrade to Windows 10."
