I just wanted to see how many of you, after installing Windows 10, will stay with it? How many of you uninstalled it already? For me, it's O.K. Nothing really special. I'll always prefer Windows 7 over anything other OS. I have W10 installed on a partition. I'm kinda sketchy over the whole privacy deal. And how you can't control what updates it will install. What are your thoughts?
I installed Windows 7 Pro on a spare hard drive. Used the media tool and selected Windows 10 Pro. Used upgrade now and it succeeded in upgrading to Windows 10 Pro. Used Easy BCD to add Windows 10 Pro to the Menu. Upgraded 2 computers and received the same activation key. Did any one else receive the same key? Is Microsoft sending the same key to everybody? The thing I dislike is Windows 10 is spying on us. Now there are apps being released to block the spying. Microsoft added spying by monitoring swiping on touch screens, GPS, and other data mining. There is a page of things Windows 10 monitors and sends it back to Microsoft and App companies. Apps for stores can monitor what you do. All the settings for data mining are turned on. Some say Microsoft can turn the settings back on. There is a key logger built in to Windows 10. Microsoft has 10 sending out your Wifi key. Daniel
I upgraded 7 to 10 and then clean installed 10. Everything runs well, pretty smooth, and I like 10. But I don't trust 10 due to privacy concerns, so for now I have an image of it, but I'm running Debian Linux until I learn more or change my mind, or until my gut tells me otherwise...
Regarding Activation, my test computer is multi-booting WinXP, Win7, Win8.1, Win10 upgraded from Win8.1, Win10 clean install. All OS are independent and aren't in a Microsoft multi-boot. The Win8.1/Win10 OS are activated and I'm interested to see if they remain activated after the one month grace period.
It's glitchy and by no means a polished product but I'm sticking with it; it's noticeably faster and has UI enhancements I use.
I upgraded from Windows 7 and did used the Reset PC feature. My programs work fine, it boots faster with hybrid shutdown, and it seems easier to find some system information. I don't think it's any worse than Chrome so I'll continue to use it.
i'm loving it so far. I just installed it earlier today after the Notification center told me it was ready to download. The new Edge browser is good enough so I can finally get rid of Chrome now. the new virtual monitors function is very nice. it seems to be at least as fast as previous versions. settings to tweak the Privacy options: https://fix10.isleaked.com/
Thanks moontan, that does look pretty comprehensive. I'll check it out next time I restore my 10 image and play with things...
So far I love it. I was under the impression (like many here) that it was being released too soon, and that there would still be some serious issues that needed to be fixed when it was released. But, it's working really well on my primary laptop which is six years old. In terms of performance it running at least as well as Windows 7, maybe a little bit faster. In my case, RAM usage seems to be about the same as for Windows 7. I've had very few issues so far, and I even have grown to really like the new start menu, and will not be replacing it with one of many Windows 7 style start menus available. So far, I've upgraded 5 Windows 7 and 8.1 computers and done one clean install (on a 9 year old laptop), and it runs well on all of them, even the oldest laptop.
the Theming (windows and UI decorations) is nicer than on previous versions. the new Start menu is better than the Metro Start I think. I just upgraded on top om my 8.1 version and everything went very smoothly.
as I stated elsewhere, I installed it, then paid to upgrade to Education thinking that would help disable telemetry, then spent 2 days of my life in gpedit and regedit and it was such an aggravation. I just went back to Win 7 and now I am searching it for telemetry and the like.
Upgraded from Windows 8 Pro (running as a VM in Virtualbox) – running just fine, however, niggles abound. My Start Menu is problematical! If I add app Tiles, the next time I open the menu – most of my app Tiles have adopted icons from another app! Eg, 6 out of 8 Tiles might then show as Yahoo Mail or Cyberfox, etc. I've ended up removing all the app Tiles so that my Start Menu only displays Settings and Shutdown. Launching takes 40+ seconds to the main UI – (sits at the Login screen for around 20 seconds which causes the biggest delay) Thus far, (5 days after upgrading) Windows 10 is far slower and much buggier than Windows 8 – but it's early days yet. There is no way I would replace Windows 7 with 10! (maybe it'll grow on me eventually)
I like it even though having a few issues. Nevertheless I'm not going to revert to 8.1. + It is more responsive than 8.1 + A little bit faster than 8.1 + New notification centre + Trouble free upgrade from 8.1 + Trouble free migration of all installed applications and they all work, no need to reinstall - LAN connection is lost after reboot (details in another thread) - CAMService Module errors (details in another thread)
I upgraded one 8.1 system and did a clean install on a Linux machine that had never seen Windows. Both are running smoothly. I encountered no installation or updating issues at all. Never liked 7. 8.1 was annoying. 10 is good. Edge is good for an initial rollout, but needs extension capability to be practical. (Rumored to arrive in October.) I'll continue with Chrome until then, although its font rendering is not as good. There's much unsubstantiated hysteria about "Windows 10 is spying!!" on the web. Most of it is plagiarized. Almost none of it is accurate. (Remember that most tech media these days crank out lowest-common-denominator clickbait rather than engage in actual journalism. Don't be suckered.) Many of the so-called spying issues are actually about Microsoft's cloud services (which MS now obviously considers a core revenue-producing part of Windows), not data on your own hardware, but few reports bother to make that distinction. So, yes, they're scanning mail on their mail servers to target ads, just like everyone else who gives away mail service. (You can pay $20 to get rid of the Outlook ads.) And, yes, when required by legal authorities, they will delve deeper into data we users voluntarily store on their servers. And, yes, that privacy statement says so. That's the way the web works, folks. We've all decided we won't pay for anything, so corporations figure out other ways to make a buck. If you don't like it, don't play along. Otherwise, it's simple to turn off what annoys you. At least one widely covered app making the rounds claiming to beat the "spying" is malware. There is no key logger in Windows 10. Systems voluntarily enrolled in the Insiders program are wired up pretty thoroughly to provide test data, which Microsoft details when you sign up as an Insider. That's the purpose of being in the Insiders program. All Insider machines prior to 29 July had the same activation code. I don't know if that will continue following the release.
Updated twice and restored my windows 8.1 image twice. First time I ran into problems with unresponsive interface, searchs not openng, notification center not opening, etc. Second time I just ran into random freezes, long boot time and, sometime, it was just unable to validate my credentials. Both times I suffered with constant crashes that forced an explorer restart but I must admit that the restarts were quite fast. Also I have to use an SQL based database software for my work and for some reasons the services would not auto start even when set to autostart at boot, forcing me to manually start them every time I needed to do some work. Also i have not tried a clen install yet and wonder if my problems would go away if i tried. Maybe i will try when i have enough time to reinstall e configure all the software I use. Anyway Windows 10 was way faster than my current Windows 8.1 and i will upgrade again some time in the future. I will just wait while it is debugged a little more and other companies have some more time to launch better optimized versions of drivers and software in general.
yes, more "up to date". Not really concerned about the firewall but protection yes. Tried so far ZA Extreme, WSA and Emsisoft internet security... All of them works fine here.
Ever since upgrading to Windows 10, my laptop has woken from sleep every now and then when I'm away from the computer, for no apparent reason. This is a problem I've never experienced before. I issued the command powercfg –lastwake as detailed at wind8apps, which showed that TeamViewer was the more recent cause. I launched TeamViewer and checked for updates (in case it was a bug with TeamViewer which had been fixed in a more recent release), and there was a new version which I installed. I did some more searching and it was suggested to disable "Allow Wake Timers" as explained at HowToGeek. This should have fixed the problem, and hopefully will help others with the same issue.
8Juat an update on my previous post. A clean install of Windows 10 solved all my problems. The system is now fast and responsive and it's clearly faster than in Windows 8.1
