Can any members with the latest version of SPD (at least v5.1.4 or later) report as to whether they have tested the product in conjunction with the Windows 10 Tech Preview along with the results?

If there any severe issues (as in complete failure in terms of imaging, activation, etc.), I would like to report those issues to the techs on the SC forum. Thanks!

I'll give it a whirl, probably tomorrow, but I think it does work.

Okay guys. Yes it does. installed, activated, imaged and uninstalled in my Win 10 VM. Was going to do it on my desktop install. My experience with that tells me if you want to use SP and most desktop images, beware of 10. Even with the pro version you can't stop the windows update download or "preparing" for install. When I went thru it today, I had BSOD's on both of those steps. Needless to say if an image was running....

Thanks so much, Peter. So, is this going to be somewhat of a universal issue that developers of imaging s/w will need to resolve?

Is there a workaround, or solution at this point, or would we need to make sure to take our machines offline? Thanks again!

My solution is to stick with W7 for the time being. I like Win 10, but there is nothing in that I need. Just eye candy

I find it confounding that MS would eliminate the option to defer updates in the Home edition of W10 (I thought that was an option for Pro and Enterprise, at least). I suppose devs of imaging s/w will have their hands full figuring out a solution to that issue. I would think there would have to be one, however, since there would be little that would inure to the benefit of MS if users were continually faced with severe issues when imaging their W10 systems.

Going offline would certainly work for Windows 10 Updates prevention (during an image) but that is hardly a good answer...

But it sure would rule out Imagemanager and Continuous Incrementals.

After installing Windows 10, ShadowProtect Desktop 5 would no longer work. I contacted StorageCraft and they said they would have fix withing 90 days. Pretty sad considering they knew Windows 10 was coming just like everyone else did. I ended up uninstalling Windows 10 and will wait for StorageCraft to support W10.

You might consider going back to W10 and using Macrium Reflect FREE (to image your system) until SC comes through with the needed changes...

I'll try installing it in my Win 10 image a bit later and will post back.

Yes SC is way behind in adopting new technologies. It took them several years to make their product support UEFI with secure boot, long after Windows 8.1 was released. And now it's Windows 10. It's ridiculous. I can almost guarantee you that they'll spend a lot more time than three months to make their product compatible with Win10. Although it's a minor change from Win8.1 to Win10.
I'd rather use other disk imaging solutions.

SC may not "officially support" Windows 10 at the current time, but there have been reports from a couple of SPD v5 users on the SC support forum that the s/w was working with Win 10. IIRC, there were a couple of users who had activation issues with Win 10, but those issues were resolved, one way or the other.

Having said that, at this point ShadowProtect Desktop is pretty much a dead product, having been superseded by ShadowProtect SPX. According to the SC, there will be no new features added to SPD; going forward there will only be maintenance releases. As a result, it would probably make sense for SPD users (who have current maintenance and who plan to continue using ShadowProtect) to upgrade to SPX. Personally, I have done so and have had virtually no issues with Win 10 and SPX.

I have successfully installed SPD v5 lastest version in Win 10 x64. It was fine. Also I've trialed SPX, and it was okay. Discussed the differences with my contact at Storagecraft and his comment, was unless I plan on installing and imaging a Linux system, there wasn't much point in switching.

The wait is over; StorageCraft now "officially supports" Windows 10 - https://www.storagecraft.com/support/forum.

You can now open a Support Case if you're experiencing issues with ShadowProtect and W10.

    prius04,
Nothing is updated. (Setup and release notes are still of older version)
    am I missing something?

Not really. The takeaway is that SC will now work with customers who encounter issues when running ShadowProtect in Windows 10. After all, SC did not state that ShadowProtect was incompatible with Windows 10; SC merely stated that Win 10 was not an "officially supported" OS.
