I need to be able to download you tube videos. So I looked up several options down on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_YouTube_downloaders I tried the first two. Both them were picked up by Little Snitch to phone to ad companies. Like seriously... these days everything connects to ad servers
I use FlashGot (Firefox): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashgot/?src=ss or SMPlayer: http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/
flashgot (firefox addons), eagle get are usually reliable. i find IDM slighty inconsistent.. sometimes it's give me 404 error.
That's because it's a Firefox extension. To be honest, it's the main reason I use Firefox at all these days, as I'm usually in Maxthon on Windows and Android and Chromium on Linux.
I fixed my link in my post mattdocs12345 my bad it had a few characters at the end and when you opened it, it resulted in a error the link works fine now, I been using that site for about 2 years it has worked great!!
I prefer SaveFrom.net helper http://en.savefrom.net/user.php . (enable the extension when you want to download something and disable it when you don't need it) Panagiotis
