I find Bitdefender AV Free an effective AV and it's definitely light on resources, but I'm wondering if I should add additional protection (preferably freeware) for online banking & shopping? :doubt:

I don't use Bitdefender free. But perhaps you might be interested in HitmanPro.Alert

    Alternatives to BitDefender's Safepay mentioned above;

    1. Zenmate; https://zenmate.com/

    SnapCrab_NoName_2015-5-9_10-35-23_No-00.png

    2. MyPOQ ; https://www.quarri.com/products/mypoq/

I still Bitdefender Free and some client machines, particularly for the set it and forget it type of usability. I try to keep things as simple as possible for some users. I switch them over to Google Chrome to make good use of Chrome's built-in phishing and malware protection. And for the third layer in this keeping things simple setup, I switch their DNS over to Norton ConnectSafe. So there's 3 absolutely simple layers of protection and generally quite light.

On family, relatives & friends systems those dont know about security, I install Bd free, Google Chrome, Unchecky & AdblockPlus (default i.e only ads blocking i.e only the default 1 filter i.e EasyList).
Enabling additional filter provided by AdblockPlus i.e malware, sociamedia & tracking, they sometimes reported probs with some websites. Disabling the additional filter always solved the prob. So now I keep only default ads filter i.e EasyList enabled in AdblockPlus.

Didn't see anything about this being a trial. It's encrypting keystrokes, blocking browser hijacks/malware - I've been running banking malware/exploits, it works.

You can't use the stand-alone Bitdefender Safe Pay when any other Bitdefender security solution is installed. States the same on it's home web page:

*Safepay doesn’t work with any other antivirus solution from Bitdefender.

I would stay away from Quarri's MyPOQ. I have tested it on two separate occasions and it has issues. Now it's paid commercial POQ version is excellent.

I believe you would be better off using the free version of MBAE which is currently actively supported by MalwareBytes versus the free version of HitmanPro.Alert

I just uncovered a BDAV-Free issue - When I go to the Microsoft Update Site it reports an error, telling me to do a restart. But if I exit out of BDAV-Free all works well.

Ps. I just installed BD Safeplay (along with BDAV-Free) and both of them seem to be working. :doubt:

Reboot and then access SafePay and see if there are issues. I believe the problems are intermittent; like SafePay/other Bitdefender software lock-ups, freezing, and the like.

I did reboot my system and all seems well s(o far) as BDAV-Free & BD SP.

Any ideas about my problems connecting to MS Updates when BDAV-Free is active?

It seems that it does not work alongside the free version of Bitdefender. It only worked for one day and now can't even be installed correctly.

Since it is included in the paid BD offerings and doesn't need to be installed separately, it probably hasn't yet been made to be compatible with the free AV. Maybe it never will be since they may think that would be giving away too much for free. On the download page it even states that the downloaded Safepay will not work with any Bitdefender AV product. I didn't see that when I first tried to use it.

Its WebShield sometimes gives probs with some websites.
Thats why disabling Bd free, the websites works.

I wish there were 2 options, FileShield & WebShield so that the users can disable WebShield only to access the websites.

Yes you're right, I have experienced the very same thing - Intermittent 'lock -ups' & 'freezing'
I uninstalled Safepay in the end.

Yes, it is free. Though some functions requires the user to pay
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/attachments/hmpa-version-comparison-png.246705/

He can easily use both free versions if he wants.

The free version of HitmanPro.Alert 3 comes with Safe Browsing, which "Warns when the browser is unsafe for online banking, shopping or webmail".
