Please note that although some companies are located in certain countries, their development is often done in other countries (like India, etc.) for cost reasons...

Country of origin is not that important to me. If somebody is concerned about AV companies having connections with governments, then it would be best to use AV from some foreign country. That way their own government wouldn't get information that AV is collecting. Some information can be much more "dangerous" in hands of your government than in hands of some foreign government that has no judicial power over you.

If we check AV-vendor list, we can see that a lot of them use Bitdefender as third party engine. So Romanian antivirus can be considered as most widespread?

As an American, I am most concerned with being spied on by local vendors. What's someone in another country gonna do?

So ESET is Slovakian and Vipre is from the USA, but from my perspective, it's all global. Inasmuch as employees are spread out worldwide, regional distributions centers as well as offices span the globe, and research centers and network partners are found in many, many countries, corporate headquarters and "country of origin" mean little if anything at all. You believe what you want to believe, and that belief probably ends up having no relationship to the way things really are anyway.

IBK has provided a link listing where most antiviruses are made. That should provide enough info for everyone.
