Just saw the newly released 'Fortres Grand Clean Slate 7.0' . Any experience with it?
Right now I'm using Toolwiz TimeFreeze on Windows 8 and sometimes it doesn't work as it should. I was thinking to change to Clean Slate 7.0 since it seems a bit more mature than TTF and it also allows updates to be installed and kept while Clean Slate is active.

Took a look at the website. The feature to automatically allow updates scares me. A bug could let thru unwanted stuff. I much prefer the simplicity of Shadow Defender.

I tried different (recent) versions of Shadow Defender in the past and it was very heavy on my PC. That's why I'm using Toolwiz TimeFreeze right now.

    Hi Paul

For me it is what I would describe as slightly heavy, but I am protecting a 1tb C drive, 1tb F drive and 2tb G drive, so that may well be a factor. But even at that it is only barely noticeable.

I've run TTF....prefer ShadowDefender. Will be looking for your detailed Clean Slate review ;)
So, WU's even with requisite restart ?
Clean Slate appears aimed at institution. You think it's home user friendly ?

In the more recent versions of Shadow Defender Automatic Update is turned on by default but you can untick it in 'Administration'.

played a Little bit with it inside a virtual machine. It offers several different Options which you can enable or disable. It has Imaging built into it as well as application restrictions. It appears to be a pretty good program however there are almost no Reviews out there about it.

A few years ago, I had a discussion with Mike Wood (AKA Coldmoon) of Returnil as to how Clean Slate 6.5 was able to enable and disable security without a reboot when disk partition virtualization programs like Returnil, Shadow Defender, and ToolWiz Time Freeze cannot.

The following is a link to the discussion where Mike said the technical implementation of Clean Slate is different from that of a disk partition virtualization program. I am posting this for anyone who is interested to see the original discussion.

This is not to say that either approach is necessarily better from a user perspective though, just a different implementation technically, assuming that Clean Slate 7 works in the same way as Clean Slate 6.5.

Has anyone played with the free Privacy Fence(Beta) app yet? It's on the same website and seems to be their only free release offering.

Privacy Fence full version as complete feature set and upgradable installation through a fully compliant Windows MSI packaged as an executable. Must be installed with admin credentials. Consists of platform specific kernel mode driver, both platform dependent and independent executables, and basic configuration files.
