i bought a new dell desktop on 1-31. win7 sp1 64bit. ran all windows updates, removed all crapware. at this point i'm running ie11. since flashplayer updates in ie11 i'm assuming flash is up to date. i check control panel -flashplayer-advanced-activex shows out of date flash so i update the activex to latest version. later in the day i install firefox and update plugin flash to latest version. now on 3-19 i want to run the flashplayer uninstaller and update firefox plugin to the 17 flashplayer . if i run the uninstaller, will it uninstall the ie11 flashplayer? i don't want to do this if it is up to date. since flash updates thru ie11, does it still show in activex -flashplayer-control panel. thanks
Running the flash player uninstaller wont remove the IE activeX that Windows update installs, it just removes the plugin version of flash player
This is Windows 7 and not 8. Windows update only updates it for Windows 8 or newer. I assume that the uninstaller will remove all copies of it. That said, I have never found the uninstaller to be necessary unless something was corrupt.
banzi-xxjackxx thanks for your replys i've been use to my xp 32bit machines and was unsure how this worked in win7 64bit. most of the time flash updates automatically but seems to be dragging its feet updating this new version. thanks again for your help.
Yes, I've expierenced that as well. The automatic update usually updates in 1 or 2 days at the most, now I saw machines that still weren't updated after a week. A few years ago if you wanted all old files removed, you needed to uninstall the old Flash version first, but now you can just install the new version on top and it will clean up nicely.
On Windows 7 and Firefox you get the updates through Adobe's updater when they publish it to said updater. Sometimes that is a couple of days after it is released, sometimes it is actually before. In most cases I am getting it from Majorgeeks instead of waiting. Windows 8 and newer you get it for IE from Windows Update, which sucks, especially when Windows Update is broken. Thankfully I make backups.
