A few weeks ago, I installed IObit's "Driver Booster 2" on my Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 computers. "Driver Booster 2" found a lot of old, very old drivers on all those computers. Somehow (stupidly) I allowed IObit's "Driver Booster 2" to update all drivers for all my computers. No problems on the Win 8 and Win 8.1 computers, but... Since Driver Booster 2 updated the drivers for my Windows 7 computer, that computer cannot shut down - the green light is on, the fan is working. I need to physically/manually turn the Win 7 computer off. Also, I cannot re-start the computer from that state without shutting it down first. I've tried to unroll all the updates for the computer or use System Restore but nothing's helped. Any ideas besides re-installing Windows 7?
Make a drive image or at least drive backups next time. Do not update your drivers (except maybe video card) unless necessary. These tools are potentially dangerous and I would recommend you to update the drivers yourself from the manufacturer's website or Windows Update.
Just a Rhetorical Question. If our computers are so SMART and so INTELLIGENT, then where can I find that simple (or complex) answer to my Windows 7 "can't-shut-down" problem? What software could I download, that would pinpoint my problem? "You have a problem with this or that driver, or something else; therefore, replace/reinstall that driver," or "You have an issue with your BIOS, or with your switch, etc..." Is it ONLY about Job Security?
I had random BSOD experiences after updating to the latest drivers found on my manufacturer's website. I used ma-config and it pointed me to a later version for my Intel graphics card...and that did the trick on my end.
Now, I agree with you completely, but I'd like to add that Iobit's customer service is communicating with me, and it's a positive sign. I've downloaded Ma-Config program. It's a very interesting one, but I have not have enough time to analyze it in full. It could take some time. Just a question. Ma-Config web-site does not sell anything. How are they supporting and maintaining their web-site?
