Rollback RX (for personal use) still seems like the best security setup. If the system and the applications + data are divided on separate harddrives, it doesn't seem to cause any problem that only the system is protected by Rollback RX while the rest relies on standard Windows security. Not that a virus wouldn't be able to delete stuff on application + data drives, but many years of experience tells that, if you don't particularly look for such virus then the only thing you'll get are accidental program bugs and advertisement(hacks) crashing or slowing the CPU. So Sandboxie really isn't necessary, since those problems can be removed by a rollback. Also Sandboxie causes several problems with for example installation of larger files and its sandbox is a double of data, so it needs constant maintenance about what to delete and what to overwrite originals. Instead it is much easier in Windows to relocate user folders on the system drive to the application drives, so they're excepted from Rollback layering. And those User folders that can't be relocated - like AppData - which some applications also use for data storage, they can particularly be excepted in Rollback RX advance settings. 99.9% very simple and easy security on PC.

Sorry, but I'm not buying that. As of Rollback Rx v9.1 (the last version I had experience with) RB had no provision for preventing infection of the MBR or even it's Baseline Snapshot and once that happens, game over! So with v9.x it was vital to implement additional security measures to prevent such infections. So unless RB v10.x can now positively prevent malware such as rootkits from gaining direct disk access (somehow) your premise doesn't hold water!

If users found Rollback Rx to be a reliable solution, I am glad they did.
However, I've experienced many issues with Rollback Rx since 2009.
Since the beginning of 2015, I no longer use Rollback Rx.

I have now verified that Macrium Reflect v6 can restore backups with Rollback Rx flawlessly (well only done two restores so far, but anyway) I have bought and used Rollback Rx when it was released. It worked well for 3 months when suddenly without any warning all snapshots disappeared after a reboot so I dropped it. I am now testing the latest version and it seems to work fine. I have been jumping back and forth in the snapshots. To bad the price is so high, I hesitate buying it since I had my last experience that showed it wasnt reliable in the long run...

Details please - which RBrx version did you backup? ...were your 'flawless' restores the result of hot-normal or cold-raw backups? ...were all snapshots restored or just the current snapshot?

    The latest RBx 10.2. build 2699751435. Macrium v6 build 482 (64bit).
I just took a backup as usual (Intelligent Sector Copy) and then after a couple of days made a differential.
I then restarted and booted into Macrium USB and restored the differential and when it was done Windows worked as it did before the restore with all RBX snapshots (6 of them and the baseline) and I booted into all of them to see that they where bootable.

Thanks for those details. I'm not very familiar with MR6 but my guess re those backups and restores is that you were very lucky! As 'The Rollback Frog' is quite knowledgeable of both RBrx and MR6 perhaps he will see this and we will get his take on this 'phenomenon'.

If you really want to test MR6's capability in restoring your RBrx system you would need to wipe C:, writing 0's (or random writes) to all sectors before performing the restore. But I don't advocate doing that unless you do it on a test system!

Thanks for the tip about a disk backup that also works with Rollback RX 10.2. build 2699751435. That should make it possible to try a new OS and afterwards restore the original system.

As you say pv, sukarof was indeed very lucky! I have run backup tests (just as you suggest above) of my Rollback XP system (Rollback XP uses the Rollback Rx v10.2 engine). In my tests I used Acronis TI, AOMEI Backupper, Drive Snapshot, EaseUS ToDo Backup and Macrium Reflect. I found the only reliable way to backup a Rollback (v10.2) system is by making a cold all-sectors backup.

Drive Cloner v6 is the only disk imager that has the potential to reliably make hot backups of a Rollback (v10.2) system. But it is still in beta and God only knows when the final version will be released.

Yes it was pure blind luck and imho sukarof would be mislead (and ultimately dismayed) to trust that backup & recovery procedure in the event of an actual system disaster.

When I last tested DC6 about a month ago it did show promise as a hot (complete) backup solution for RBrx but it was in a very early beta stage. Any other image backup program must be used to make a cold raw (sector by sector) backup in order to capture and restore all snapshots, or a simple hot backup can be used to restore only the current snapshot as long as you also have a backup of track0 (before RBrx was installed) to restore along with that hot backup.

I wouldn't use RBrx/Eaz-Fix on my main machine because I consider it is far too risky. When it works, it works fine but it really is so much trouble when it decides to just turn against you. It would be an OK candidate for a machine dedicated for testing programs due to it's quick snapshots though. Nothing much to lose there if anything goes wrong.

Although I haven't had any problems over the 5 months that I've been using RB, all of the horror stories out there do concern me so I've been making image backups (religously). I'm now testing AXTM as a possible substitute. ;)

If Rollback was freeware and wasn't advertised in the most misleading way possible then Id agree with you, however Rollback is like spinning a roulette wheel every time you switch on your computer. So I consider yourself and others on here as Horizon shills just promoting buggy, beta, potential system ruining software.
