Maxthon Cloud Browser V4.4.4.2000 officially released! Now ABP is included. 'Most excellent' as Bill & Ted would have said. My birthday's soon and the Maxthon devs must have known what I wanted as the inclusion of ABP is about time.

I just gave this a try, with no real intention to replace my current browser - TheWorld, but to have a look. I've used Maxthon on and off for a number of years now. I like that once I signed into my Maxthon account, it not only restored my bookmarks from the cloud, but also my settings, so I did not have to change any settings to make it work the way I want. This is good, since a few years ago I had an experience when Maxthon did not restore the settings I had spent time configuring.

While not my current browser of choice, I still think Maxthon is miles ahead of IE, Chrome and Firefox, for the simple reason that it is highly configurable. Once installed and it has finish syncing, it is ready to go without me needing to install any addons to get it to work how I want.

ABP seems to be working well anyway, as far as I can tell. The only extension I used on Maxthon was Flager or Maxthon Flag. Unfortunately the extension devs can't keep up with Mx's updating. It doesn't really need add-ons/extensions as it more or less does have it all 'out of the box'. A few extra good ones regularly maintained though, like WOT, or something, would be the icing on the cake. Maxthon would probably inherit the Earth then. lol

No LastPass for it? Not viable for me.

Also, can you disable ABP? I hate ABP, and would rather use uBlock or Adguard.

    This LastPass?

I tend to prefer ABE on Firefox, but ABP is a vast improvement on Maxthon's original adblocker. It does the job and I believe will now ensure Maxthon is more of a contender. I'm pretty sure ABP can be disabled.

Wow, this is the first Maxthon in years I feel I may actually switch to!

    1) ABP can be fully disabled. I had issues 'fully' disabling Adhunter before. (I want to use Adguard for Win)
    2) LastPass Extension is fully compatible, I always had issues with it.
    3) So far its EXTREMELY fast and stable.

Spoke too soon: LastPass still doesn't work entirely correctly on Maxthon. That and the inability to remove sidebar AND locate LastPass icon to the top bar probably mean I still can't use it. Maybe next year..

Extensions aren't always kept up with the latest releases of Mx unfortunately and there can be incompatibilities. The sidebar can be hidden and most icons for extensions can be located to the top bar AFAIK.

Is this the real ABP, or is it developed by Maxthon itself? I might try Maxthon again when they switch to IE 12, hopefully they will switch to IE's new extensions system.

I'm pretty sure it's the real ABP. It works just like it. The Linux version already has it, unfortunately I couldn't get Maxthon to even run on Ubuntu. The Windows and Android versions both run well though. Although the Android Maxthon doesn't have an adblocker. I can't see MX using IE's proposed extensions and the adblocker only works when the Blink core is utilised AFAIK.

Yes my bad, I've just checked out the ABP page again, and now I see a reference to Maxthon. And it would be quite dumb not to switch to IE extensions in the future, but I don't know how difficult it would be for them, from a technical point of view.

I just don't know what it would entail to use IE extensions in Maxthon. I doubt very much they would implement this. Adding Chrome extensions would make more sense. I'm guessing most people who use Maxthon use the Blink core anyhow. All Maxthon needs now is the regular updating of the extensions it already has and a British English spellchecker and I'd be very happy. :D

Yes. In Ultra Mode there will be a yellow 'lightning flash' icon in the runbar.

The reason why is because Maxthon extensions are not advanced enough. And Maxthon is not based on Blink, it's based on WebKit, so adding Chrome extensions is not an option, if I'm correct.

I tried beta and i could not add my own filters it was a watereddown adblock plus. No easy privacy allowed only default they have.

Ok i figured it out actually. Go to add filter, Add a Different Subscription, Title put EasyList, Then filter location add https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easyprivacy.txt

Actually this is my fav browser now.

Some people on the Maxthon forum have claimed it's slowed the browser down a bit. I haven't noticed this on my Win 7 desktop box. It may be simpler than the Firefox/Chrome version though.

I have trouble updating to a new version. Finally, got it updated to v4.4.3.000 a little while ago...I think it is Defensewall that gets in the way.

OK now I'm really impressed. Maxthon for Android just updated today with 4.4.0.2000 (previous version ~ 4.3.8.2000) and now has ABP incorporated. It really is my birthday this week, Maxthon have given me what I wanted.

OK I see, then I think we already have our answer, they probably couldn't add Chrome extensions support. Like I said before, Maxthon's extensions system is simply not good enough, so that's a serious deal-breaker to me. Even the one in Opera 12 seems to be more advanced.

I think the extensions in Maxthon are advanced enough, I just believe it's a matter of the individual developers not keeping up with Maxthon updates.

It's a very good new to know that Adblock Plus was added in Maxthon.

I tried it and it's working well blocking ads.

Since I use AdFender, I disabled filtering by AdFender (same EasyList) to try the newer built-in Adblock Plus in Maxthon.

Noticed that with built-in Adblock Plus in Maxthon "it's slowed the browser down a bit" in fact, than using AdFender.

I think that such behaviour can be expected as normal: in fact ad-blockers like AdFender can to block the ads before to load them, unlike browsers ad-blockers that download the ads and after load them can to block such advertisements in browser.

BTW, Daveski17 congratulations for your birthday. :)

ABP is a huge improvement on Mx's previous integrated 'Adhunter'. On Firefox I thought that ABP was getting rather over complex with a plethora of anti-tracking and privacy filters which inevitably broke some pages for me, so I eventually switched to ABE. I've even been trialling ublock on Firefox and there is a thread discussing the idea of possible future ports of ublock for Maxthon on the Maxthon forum.

My only Windows computer now is a custom built box running Win 7 with a fair bit of RAM & CPU speed (AMD quad) so I haven't really noticed any slowing of Maxthon. It is blisteringly quick anyway and easily the fastest browser I have ever used on Windows. I do believe ABP has slowed the Android version of Mx on some pages though. But that's a small price to pay if you ask me. Without adblocking some pages may initially load faster on Android. However some ads can appear to load fractionally later. This can often cause the page to jump around in an infuriating way on my Nexus 7. So in the main I welcome ABP on Maxthon for Android. Unfortunately three or four months ago when I tried to run the Linux version of Maxthon on Ubuntu I couldn't get it to run nor could I sign in to the Maxthon cloud. It did have ABP inbuilt, although I couldn't test its efficacy. I think overall that ABP on Maxthon has been a long time coming. It has made it much more functional as a browser for me personally anyway.

    Thanks, it's on Tuesday. :)
