I've had a look through the Forum and can't find anything about this - apologies if I missed it.

I've got a laptop with 500 Gb HD (about 1/4 full), and have just bought a new 250 Gb SSD. The SSD is attached to the laptop with a SATA-to-USB adapter. I have installed Paragon Migrate OS to SSD but it doesn't work at all. It correctly finds the OS partition and asks me to choose which files to migrate (I've selected all of them). It says there is about 70 Gb to migrate and starts the process. It runs through the various steps with a green tick at each step, but completes very quickly (about 10 minutes, which is far too fast for 70 Gb).

When I reboot the computer, I can see it has created an OS partition on the SSD but it is basically empty - only about 70 Mb. It's not transferred the OS or my data. I have retried several times, with reboots, but the result is always the same.

The SSD itself, and USB adapter, are working OK - I can create a partition on it, copy in a big media file and play it back from there.

    Other information:
    - 500 Gb HD is formatted GPT, with about 10 partitions (mostly hidden) - for recovery etc I presume - and 512 byte sectors
    - The SSD (also GPT) apparently uses 512 byte sectors, but the USB adapter reports 4096 byte sectors
    - The Paragon log file contains no obvious errors, but there are messages like "Initialize() not found", "StartListening() not found" and "StopListening() not found"
    - I have ticked the "use all the drive space" tickbox but not the "create boot record" tickbox (don't want to break the original HD before I know the new drive is working)

Any ideas before I give up and do a full Windows reinstall on the new drive (and ask Paragon for my money back!)?

    Many thanks!

Yes, I did look at that (afterwards!) but didn't see anything obviously relevant to my issue. The one thing I may investigate further when I can get access to the computer is VSS - though again if something had gone wrong there, I would have expected an error message rather than an apparently successful copy.

You can also do these migrations using backup images. It´s a more manual and flexible process, and you have more control over it.

True - but I was really looking for a "one click" solution. If I have to do more effort, I might as well just do a fresh reinstall of Win 8.1 (which has some advantages anyway). Thanks for your suggestions up to now anyway.

I have also tried disabling my anti-virus, as apparently this can cause troubles with VSS, but with no improvement.

Just to complete this thread: I never did manage to have any success, even with suggestions from Paragon support. But I've done a fresh Windows 8.1 install to the SSD and this has worked fine. So it seems that the migrate tool does have its limitations - and it's especially challenging if you can't connect the "target" drive directly via SATA
