I was looking at trying out Bitdefender but nowhere does it say it actually detects keyloggers only that it protects against. This is only valid if you use paysafe.. that I know is ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ because nobody actually starts up paysafe. Also I did not like that I could not even contact them on a pre-sales question. That support is a damn joke. So I am looking at if there is a better software out there than Kaspersky which has expired at this time? Features wanted. Keylogger detection Firewall monitoring (but by default allow all except known unsafe applications) Very low system impact Customer support options like forums & email at the least What suggestions can you point me too. I do not mind testing I'll just use Revo Uninstaller to make a snapshot before installing so I know I can completely remove. Thanks!
I think Emsisoft Internet Security is a good choice for you ... http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/internetsecurity/
Well I always will suggested Webroot SecureAnywhere and it meets all of your criteria! http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/affiliates/biggestsavings?ref=cj&rc=2614 Also see this small video from Webroot Education it's an older version but it's still the same if not better since, and your Credentials are protected even if infected with a keylogger also support is second to none: https://community.webroot.com/t5/We...f-Webroot-quot-Misses-quot-a-Virus/ta-p/10202 Thanks, TH
If keyloggers are an important focus for you, maybe you should look at a product in addition to an AV that specializes in them. Zemana and SpyShelter are ones discussed often here at Wilders. But there are many others. And, keylogger detection as part of AV/Security Suites is included in some comparative testing. You'll have to dig down into the test to find that specific data though. https://public.gdatasoftware.com/Pr..._GDATA_Keylogger_Protection_Whitepaper_EN.pdf
Removed Off Topic Post. Let's Focus Only On Answering the Question: Internet Security Suite with Keylogger detection? And Not Each Other. Thank You!
If you look at MRG-Offitas (sp) you will find their analysis for online banking etc....those that passed and failed. If you can't locate their site, PM me and I will send you their last report. Good luck!
Thanks I took a look at MRG-Offitas they gave Emisoft and Kaspersky a good review. I will check out Emisoft and see how it is. Thanks all for the recommendations and assistance. Guess I am stuck with KIS as Emsisoft is a rip off for there Internet Security Suite.. You can buy the lesser Anti-Malware for 3-PC but not the Internet Security as it's is $90 for 3 PC. That is absurd for home users.
In my testing I have found the Russian based security suites to be most likely to detect them and US based products to be the least likely. Products from other countries were somewhere in between.
All AVs should detect keyloggers as they are nothing else than malware, if not by signatures then by other features. But some AVs has capabilites to prevent the keylogger (if it gets passed and enters the system) from capturing and/or sending data out.
There're some legitimate use of keylogger such as monitoring employee or children (can be ethical issue if monitored person don't know it), or data collection for language analysis (needed for study or development). So it's all depends on purpose and usage. Besides, some legitimate software needs keylogging function or technique used in keylogger as a part of its function. This is why you get many "FPs" when you use e.g. Online Armor or Zemana w/out their auto-whitelisting feature.
Yes I know about those monitoring softwares e.g Spector Pro, but I was talking about malicious keyloggers.
If you go with Webroot, there may still be a few good deals here on the Newegg tab...several other brands available as well. I use Webroot as the MRG-Offitas results passed 3 products on the banking/keylogger test, Webroot being one of the three.
However, not a few attacker use those legitimate tools, no wonder as it is good way to avoid detection. Maybe the best way is to put an option to detect/ignore them like some products already have.
It's quite sometime since I tested products but at that time it wasn't that bad as you make it sound. But there can be a big difference between products as well, and no product detect 100% of course. When you say "most" do you refer to a test or own experience with keyloggers? Would be great to have a test of 1000 malicious keyloggers (not simulators) and see how the products react to them.
I don't feel like checking now, but IIRC ESET for example detect e.g Spector Pro and similar softwares as PUA or PUP providing the user has these detection categories enabled. Edit: Yep https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/how-to-install-spector-pro-keylogger.275012/#post-1696697
Not mentioned yet: Outpost Security Suite 9.1 has keylogging protection as one protection amongst others.
It was my own test with them. Only Outpost and Kaspersky detected more than half of them (out of about 2 dozen keyloggers). If there are 1000 malicious keyloggers that would make a nice sample. Though in my opinion they would not all have to be malicious. I'd be happy to see commercial ones tested as well. They are probably more likely to be encountered. It would be interesting to see who is ignoring them.
I understand, it feels like malicious keyloggers may be one of the tougher threat categories that one can test against and have a big sample set (unless one use simulators), as they may not be active for that long. Yeah that could be interesting to see as well, even if they have a usage area of monitoring employees, children etc... they should still be detected and could be put in a user optional detection category e.g "potentially unsafe" as they can be misused. But a malicious keylogger succeeding in its mission is more serious IMO. So I don't want to mix them up as one is a real malicious threat.
