I decided to get a Twitter account. But I see that they want SMS confirmation :(

So I'm looking to buy (Bitcoins) a virtual number that works with Twitter. Anyone?

Yes, but it seems that Twitter is very picky :(

I've tried a few. Maybe the IP address and country code need to match. Or maybe Twitter doesn't accept any virtual numbers. Or maybe they've flagged me for failing too much :(

Well, they do want your soul....

As reported elsewhere, the UK has gone insane in monitoring FB and Twitter, and prosecuting people (selectively), for messages the police decide they don't like.

Of course, it didn't use to be the case that you needed anything much to open a Twitter account.

Well, they certainly want to flog you with SMS spam!

Even if I were not a privacy fanatic, I would not be sharing a cellphone number with Twitter

Yeh, the cellphone number is the crown jewels for them - I dislike authentication using SMS for that reason alone, particularly if they play silly Bs with virtual accounts.

Mirimir, could you use a "burner" cell? Could be a junker that maybe you can activate for a month! 10 bucks for almost no time, but enough to send a text or two for activation... Of course then let it go dead after a month. Just an idea.

That is strange, because I have been never asked to provide a cell number (unless you want to set MFA up). Have you tried to create your account from Europe? Try that first.
In case it still asks for an SMS, do you have the option of a voice call replacing SMS? If yes, use this service: http://www.k7.net/

    Textnow.com

Use a USA ip adress to make an account, free private SMS account

There's Google Voice too, and a bunch of different Android apps for receiving texts (you can run Android in a VM)
