It's cool as a more-secure replacement for SMTP and IMAP, which are hopelessly naive. Is it perfect and unbreakable? That's hard to say. But it would clearly be a vast improvement.
Agreed. But only if it becomes massively adopted. Otherwise if you are 1 out of 1,000 or 2,000 individuals using this then you can be easily targeted by other ways.

I dislike the apparent reliance on the CA infrastructure. I'm also feeling I don't want to be tied to email addresses as the handle for communicating with different parties.
