As I don't use KDE and am aware that there are a number of KDE fans here, I was wondering what Calligra Office is like these days, is a suitable replacement of LibreOffice for example ? Cheers, Nick
I use LibreOffice and In short Calligra is not a suitable substitute. I have played around with it. It has an interesting interface that reminds me of something else I've used before, just can't place what. Its biggest shortcoming, it cannot save to Microsoft Office formats. This is a show stopper for me as I need to exchange documents with MS Office users. I tried my accounting spreadsheets in Calligra Sheets, yikes, what a disaster. Biggest problem was Calligra cannot handle external links to cells in other spreadsheet files, another show stopper.
Yeah it is a shame. I was really hoping I could start to use Calligra as a replacement. Every time they update it, I check it out. First thing is to check Save As... and sigh... maybe next time. A long with the external link problem I mentioned above, there are other issues that will more than likely keep me with LibreOffice. I use custom formats in my accounting spreadsheets. Theses are lost in Calligra and if there is a way to this in Sheets, it escapes me. Calligra Sheets in my option is a basic rudimentary spreadsheet with a focus on looks rather than function. Krita is Calligra's one bright spot. While I have not tried it, Flow looks like it might be useful.
