Little confused. What is the difference between Boot media builder and Recovery media builder?

I have the paid Paragon HD mgr 14.
But find it more difficult to use than my old True image software. The new acronis seemed to have bad review so switched to paragon when I changed from Win XP.
Now have a desktop with win 8.1 and laptop with win 7.
I ended up making a boot cd with BMB but it was not easy. Windows 8 and 7 had to download something else to a blank dvd and I had to install that first with that dvd before I could then use BMB to make a boot disk. Don't remember going thru all that with acronis.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

If you want to create a WinPE (based on Windows) boot medium, try Recovery Media Builder first.

Download RMB from your account and install it, run it and follow the instructions. It uses WinRE software, which should already be in your computers.

There are some restrictions in RMB: you can´t add drivers in the process to create the medium or ISO file, and if you use RMB in a Windows 8.1 computer, you can´t create an ISO file, the only available option is to create a bootable USB drive.

The quick answer is that, the boot media builder is a more customizable universal recovery media, while the recovery media builder (depending on whether you create Linux or WinPE) is a more general image file of both the Linux and WinPE versions.

    I am very confused.
I recently upgraded from PBR12 to 14. 12 was simple and Boot Media Builder (BMB) generated a DVD.
Boot Media Builder is now gone and RMB doesn't create a CD/DVD. It generates an ISO file and I cannot burn it to a DVD with other third party software like ImgBurn which says ISO file is invalid.
Windows 7 & 8 create a Repair Disk - and my PC is set to check my DVD writer first on Boot-Up - not a USB drive. Why waste a 32gb USB drive just for a boot device?
Why change?? DVD's are cheap and all I want is to boot up and recover a damaged (or dead) PC and access my 2TB USB3 Seagate external drive where I keep backups.
I have wasted hours trying to create a bootable DVD - why not give us what we had before and give us back BMB or give us the option in RMB to create a bootable DVDo_O
    This is crazy.:thumbd:

I use ImageBurn all the time with the Paragon ISO files and it works just fine. I've been using RW DVD's because of updates but tried a USB flash drive after reading here of somebody with a problem. It loaded so fast that I first thought it wasn't going to boot up!

I've got W10TP on a dual boot and have the Recovery on a 4GB USB flash drive. You can also covert the ESD file in your recovery folder to an ISO file with a converter if you care to.

You don't need to use a 32GB flash drive as a 4GB is way more than needed. Just press F12 during boot up when your screen is black and select the USB flash drive.

BTW: The lastest ImageBurn version is full of malware so watch yourself. My AV software wouldn't even let me download it!

Are you trying to build a Linux boot CD, or a WinPE one?

I have found problems with Linux ISOs created with RMB, but not with WinPE ISOs.

Have you tried to burn the ISO with Windows?

ImgBurn latest version, 2.5.8.0, was released in June 2013. I checked the current download with MBAM and didn´t get any malware detection, only OpenCandy. MSE didn´t detect anything. I installed ImgBurn and found some extra components whose installation can be disabled using custom install. Ran AdwCleaner after the installation and it didnt´detect anything.

I use Webroot which blocked the download from a alternate site. I tried right from ImageBurn after allowing the download but Webroot blocked the install. MBAM found 39 objects but Webroot still blocked the install. MSE is about as poor as MS Defender and included with W10TP. On purpose I infected my W10TP build with it after creating a restore point and making a PVHD backup with HDM15S. Defender allowed the download/install and MBAM removed the malware. I lost interest, booted into my Recovery USB flash drive, restored the system point and ran MBAM again. I could have tried to manually remove the malware but didn't. I started a full scan with Defender but left it unattended only to find that it allowed my PC to go to sleep during the scan!

Defender allowed a browser hijacker to be installed about a week earlier but some people still claim it's the best. It was a nasty one so I just restore a Paragon PVHD then also. That was the first time I've had to restore for years.

Webroot won't install on W10TP starting with the current 9879 build.

There was a simple fix to allow Webroot to install in W10TP, allowed Imageburn to download and did the same on W7 later. Two entirely different installers, had several options using Custom install on W7 but no such options on W10TP. After MBAM found OpenCandy on W7/W10TP and Webroot found nothing.

All steps of WinPE creation as well as BMB/RMB difference are described in the following KB article: http://kb_wp.paragon-software.com/article/978
Please note that it for products BEFORE Hard Disk Manager 15 since it and any further products are using RMB 3.0 which includes BMB functionality.
Direct burning to CD/DVD is not supported in RMB 3.0 but you may create an ISO file which can then be burned to CD using Windows built-in buring tool for Vista and later (right click on ISO - Open with - Windows Disk Image Burner).
