Im getting a new laptop with Windows 8.1 pro and recovery partition. I'd like to set this one up for multi boot. Which one of the above will be easiest to set up.
It's all how you set up Grub during install honestly. http://apcmag.com/how-to-dual-boot-windows-8-and-linux.htm And of course, watch for the Win8 issue: http://www.zdnet.com/linux-on-windows-8-pcs-some-progress-but-still-a-nuisance-7000010697/ Also, be sure your laptop has the latest BIOS before you get messing with it. Just in case.
That is a major F&%& U%. Seriously... Excuse my ignorance and poor understanding. But can I simply turn off secure boot?
This is really neat. Thank you. Hopefully will be able to set this up without much issues. I really love Linux but also need Windows to work. Thanks.
There's no reason why Secure Boot should bother you. I've tried booting Linux on two different laptops with secure boot, and there were no issues. But in the worst case, just switch it off and move on. Those two articles are just techno babble without anything useful being said. Ignore them. See how it's done with elegance and no headache (with Secure Boot and UEFI and more): http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/dual-boot-windows-8-ubuntu.html And also: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/dual-boot-windows-7-centos-7.html I vote for CentOS, if you need to choose. Cheers, Mrk
