Considering the security risks associated with using an unprotected network, do you still use free Public WiFi ? If so, what measures do you take to keep your device and information safe?
Nope, never. Not due to security reasons or anything like that. I already have my own personal internet so no point for me to use public WiFi.
Yes, but I don't do any sensitive browsing w/o SSL (and even then, not gonna use my credit card or anything like that). Normal security precautions.
I used to in the past occasionally, not doing anything sensitive though. Nowadays I use my smartphone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot which is more convenient and private.
Once in a blue moon but for the most part, do not have use for public wifi as I don't travel as much as I used to.
Forums like these one that promote internet security towards its members would most likely will have members that know of the dangers of public WiFi. If the poll were given to people who don't visit such website, I would assume it might have a much higher number of "Yes, all the time" and "Yes, occasionally".
Only recently started using public wifi and with big brother gone mad here in the UK will only use it with a vpn
Using public Wi-Fi seems to be sensible to do when the main goal is anonymity. I don't know how far things can be traced, but I believe that at least it would add another layer of complexity to identify someone.
Yes, with VPN(s)/TOR, away from my own house to conceal my anonymity. Isolated OS would work too as an option now, as lately I've moved things portable onto a Kingston DataTraveler 4000. I like using the ones that have a WPA 2 key to protect them that they hand out to regular customers, as they do at many coffee shops, and the Panera Bread near me. I got my Mullvad customer ID# this way.
I don't use public WiFi or any other form of wireless internet. I don't own any wireless devices, be it phones, tablets, or keyboards. I've disabled wireless on the modem. Nothing that I do requires me to be "connected" or electronically reachable 24/7. With just a desktop unit, I spend way too much time on the internet.
I do occasionally, and while I proably woudn't use it for internet banking, I have no problems with using it for anything else.
