I've never seen it mentioned here much.....I just tried it....... love the simple interface...... I cannot give an opinion as it's just been 12 hours since I installed it...... would love to have some feedback from you guys.....how is it? heaviness on the system? FPs? as I saw that it has a lot of FPs on AV comparatives Also, how do they deal with re-installations? I format a lot and don't like AV's that put a limit on how many times I can activate
Just did a scan, it finished in less than a minute......or maybe I didn't know how to do a full scan.....but I like that it also catches tracking cookies.....and it asks before deletion by default of a virus or a tracking cookie..... It blocks unknown and unsigned software that has to be allowed by user to run (at least it does this to our software). After each update, changed exes have to be allowed again. Setting some exclusions would probably solve this problem, though.
This is the problem I faced with Emsisoft Anti-Malware, each update to my favorite app SVP (Smooth Video Project) or to my VPN, it would block it and I had to go on their forums and ask them to whitelist the files..... thank you for the feedback, I will test it also myself and see how it plays with my software You didn't comment on its lightness/heaviness bro
I didn't use it myself. Some of our customers use it. I don't see any impact when I'm connected to their system and they don't complain about slow performance either...
Even though it has a lot of processes it ran just fine on my machine. No slow downs. I like it very much. Only thing I don't like about it is that the subscriptions prices are high compared to the deep discounts I can get on other antivirus software. The program uninstaller could do a better job too. But they might have a special uninstaller for download.
I like it so far, much lighter than other AVs I have. Despite AV comparatives showing that it had 17 FPs in their latest test and is the king of FPs, I got 0 FPs when I ran a full scan and visited various sites Now I have 2 concerns: 1) I sent them an email asking how do they deal with reactivations/reinstallations since I do format a lot. I don't buy any AV which imposes limits on how many times I can re-activate 2) They only have a 3 user license, no 5 user license.......what the duck
i do not find it super heavy but imo its not light as a feather. i do find it fairly expensive personally. i am not at all a fan of the newest gui personally. as far as activation you must uninstall the product from the system you are going to format first to "remove" the key from that one activation and then reinstall after. if you do not uninstall properly before formatting you will have to contact support to get it fixed every time (and not sure how many times they will fix it for you) otherwise as long as you use the uninstall tool each time the lic key should move properly. you may be given the option to "move" a lic if it sees all three in use already also.
Well I do uninstall the AV usually before formatting so if it's that easy it's cool. I don't care about price to be honest, I would pay anything to get a quality product that won't slow my system down to a crawl. I like the way how it doesn't delete threats automatically by default and has a very easy way of adding exclusions, it shows all system hidden files by default just like NOD32 and Kaspersky
They're a company based in Finland, but no, they don't use their own engine exclusively. They licence Bitdefender like many others these days, suplemented by their DeepGuard behaviour blocker which is quite good actually.
Also their point man is very cool as well. Google or search YouTube for Mikko Hyppönen and you'll find lots of videos and talks he does about stuxnet, etc.
It likely is not mentioned much because it is expensive and there seem to be no discounts anywhere. From what I have seen it has always been a solid product but when you can get other big name products for between free and $20 when you shop around there seems to be little reason to buy it.
My sentiments as well. Runs light (even on netbook w/ Intel Atom). I like it's spartan simplicity. I have seen no FPs. The only downside is lack of discounts available. If you are installing on 3 machines, it's not bad, but better deals are available elsewhere. PS: There is an uninstaller available: http://www.techsupportall.com/fsecure-uninstall-tool/
Thanks guys, after using it for 48 hours, I like it, much lighter than what I had before ~ Removed Off Topic Comparison Remark ~
Just bought a 3 device / 2 year license for 60 USD. All the coupon codes I tried online don't work so I had to pay the full price
I used to like F-Secure, but they seem to be falling behind. Probably because most of their technology is fairly old from the looks of it. I will say in my personal experience it's pretty easy to infect a F-Secure machine, and it's not very good at all with PUP/PUA detection, and lacks an effective method to fingerprint or insight new stuff. Unless they update their technology I don't see them scoring that high in upcoming tests. Personally? I don't feel F-Secure offers good enough protection. Also their GUI looks like someone had a bad day in MS-Paint. F-Secure had Flame whitelisted for years apparently. A good insight/fingerprinting AV would have nailed Flame on reputation alone by contrast.
Looks like another one will bite the dust. Refund request in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..... I really do like their (F-Secure/Mikko) stance on privacy. Mayahana, not quite sure what you mean. What do others offer that F-Secure does not? Please read this article. https://www.f-secure.com/documents/996508/1030745/deepguard_whitepaper.pdf Deepguard 1. Browser protection. 2. Signature-based detection. 3. File reputation analysis. 4. Behavioral analysis. 5. Exploit interception. Heuristics, Cloud Lookup, File metadata, Prevalence, Exploit protection. I suppose they haven't come up with a clever new buzzword recently.
Yeah why buy right away when the trial is good for no less than 30-days. Yes Mikko and his ponytail is great
Unless they added something recently, those claims don't hold water for me. Try downloading low reputation, unsigned files and see if it has changed. A year or so ago F-Secure rarely, if ever warned on them, and as a result I had to deal with quite a number of infections, and a good number of PUP/PUA action. How did it do in AVC's real world test?
