I agree that it might be handy when you're using lots of devices, but it's also a matter of preference. I wouldn't be comfortable to rely solely on some "Cloud AV" inside the router. I'm someone who likes to have complete control over all apps, and this can only be done with HIPS. And depending on how you use a PC, it actually doesn't take that much time to configure it at all.

We were not talking about novice users. We're talking about "expert users" who actually know how to make use of advanced security tools.

Installed yesterday night ESET AV and i found out that i cannot longer change Windows themes with TuneUp Utilities,it remains always the native one.I have snapshots with both Avast free and AVG Pro and this issue doesn't occur.Any idea what's going on? (already tried to disable NOD32 protection).

If you would use a UTM, it doesn't mean you have to stop using HIPS, Appguard, sandboxie, or whatever software you like to use. It doesn't have to be one or the other. And the UTM protects both novice and expert users that are behind it.

Please report the issue in our official forum at http://forum.eset.com and we'll do our best to help you solve the issue. Please let us know if temporarily disabling HIPS and restarting the computer make a difference.

For current Wilders members who run ESET software, who are thinking of opening accounts at the new ESET Forum, it would be appreciated if you used the (same) user name as your current Wilders user name | posting handle so the ESET folks can track posts there against ones made here.

    Thanks !

I still have NOD32 version 7 installed. Today I checked manually for virus defs updates and got the following warning (see screenshot). I guess that NOD32 is now alerting about version 8. Am I right about this? PS: I have been off home for awhile so it could be that the alert has been given earlier.

Thanks guys. It is getting time to upgrade (got to decide over-the-top or clean-install).

Some where asking elsewhere, for those upgrading to the version 8 engine.
To do this internally via the software - please follow these instructions.

How do I upgrade ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus to the latest version?
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2476

Note: Per the screen captures in the ESET KB article, you must have this enabled in your software for an internal upgrade to function.

ESS v8 Offline installer can be downloaded here:
    http://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/5/#offline

EAV v8 Offline installer can be downloaded here:
    http://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/2/#offline

Please note that all ESET Products are officially supported at the new Forum - all users are encouraged to register there under the same posting handle as you've been using at Wilders.

This ESET KB article is worth bookmarking - so that if something goes wrong with your product, you would have the installed components ready and saved in a notepad file or similar document.

How do I access information about product modules in ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus?

    Thanks Siljaline.

While in the past I always used a fresh new clean install, this time I did choose to let NOD32 make the upgrade from within the program itself. The process went very smooth and quick (of course a restart was needed); actually very smooth!
Yeah, I forgot to make a copy of the info in the About Tab before upgrading; but I can always run my file-integrity-checkers to see what has been changed, but that may have to wait because Sinterklaas is in the country ;)

And to paraphrase Cato ("Ceterum censeo" etc):
Furthermore I still think that ESET should make a scalable GUI.

    Glad to help, FanJ ;)

That's on ESET's wish list of things to do but I think it's at the Future changes to NOD32 thread over where Official support is offered. :isay:

    From 7.0.3174 to 8.0.304.0
I received the program update alert on one of my two W7 machines.
Updated over the top, letting the internal updater handle things.
All went exceedingly well, all settings were retained. Surprised that there are no noticeable changes to the GUI, but I like it how it is, so all is well. :thumb:

Glad to hear the upgrade went smooth. Well, improvements have been made in the software where improvements should be made.....meaning not necessarily in the GUI but where it actually makes a difference :D The GUI may have had the same look for a while but I like it too much to request a change as the changes they may do to it might not result in a better GUI.

    Hi Page42 and SweX,

    About your posts ( # 96 and # 98 ) and mine ( # 94 ) about the GUI :
Please allow me some more clarification.
My post about the GUI was about the wish for a "scalable GUI". Why? Because not everyone has good eyes; that is the issue with the ESET GUI, as already has been posted in this thread:
"Eset - better readable, bigger characters?"
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/eset-better-readable-bigger-characters.364847/
That is the whole point. Please do understand; thank you!

    Kind regards,
    FanJ

    Hi FanJ,

Yes, I know about that problem and I not only understand but also agree, but that wasn't my point, my point was I rather have the same or similar GUI design/layout and not something totally different ala Metro style. So I agree with what you're saying that it can be improved.
