    October 28, 2014

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web has released the tenth version of its Dr.Web for Windows software. This product is available under Dr.Web Security Space and Dr.Web Anti-virus licenses. Key innovations include a radically redesigned interface and vastly simplified configuration and administration that align even more perfectly with the user’s day-to-day requirements.

We invite you to visit our special webpage where we not only discuss Dr.Web 10.0 for Windows but also show you exactly what it looks like.

Now if they would fix their ridiculous prices and licensing.

No home pack? No unified license for all home devices? They are way behind the curve on this to the point I won't even try them.

If you have a license for Dr.Web for Windows you can use the Dr.Web for Android free.

One of the best AVs about 10 years ago, now sadly it has fallen behind most of the big vendors.

Probably still has a very slow on-demand scanner and it remains untested at the main AV-testing sites. Compared to other vendors, pricing remains noncompetitive, but they are not interested in the Home sales to the overseas market.

A lot better and cheaper AVs about now. RIP DW.

It's a bit a striking that the protection against ransomware is not truly pro active, it simply makes copies of all files. So does this mean that it doesn't stop malware from modifying your files?

This is not correct. Protection against ransomware will not give the files are encrypted. This protection is proactive. The backup file is an additional possibility. Starting with version 9.0, no ransomware that can encrypt user files, even if the threat is not present in the databases.

So, can you then give some more info about the pro-active part? We already know that AV's can not spot all new ransomware variants, so does Dr.Web look for suspicious file modifications and does it also has a file/folder protection option?

NP. This is a behavior analyzer. It is measured by the virus that begins to encrypt files and quits virus.

Can you perhaps be a bit more clear? If I'm correct, you're saying that Dr.Web DOES make use of a behavior analyzer? :)

To give some examples, a HIPS like Neoava Guard (not developed anymore) offers a file/folder protection method, plus it can detect when a process is "rapidly modifying files". And there's another tool called HitmanPro.Alert which tries to do the same, but in a bit of a different way.

Yes, of course. I spoke quite clearly. Small note: this behavior analyzer works correctly 100% with a viruses-File Encryption.

100% agreed. i would actually uses them on a few machines but the pricing is insane. they have fantastic rootkit detection among some other good traits but nto for the money they think its worth.

Yes thanks, but what I mean with "clear" is: I would like to know what method is used. You say it works 100% of the time, so does it watch for apps that are trying to enumerate and modify files? I mean, some legit tools will sometimes also do this.

Oh, sorry. It's a trade secret. I can get access to some secrets, only if i found any bugs in the program and will take a personal part in its elimination. And even in this case, all the secrets I can not learn.

Dr. Web is one of my 'hopefuls'..

This new version looks great. But I am hopeful someday they will offer a viable 'pack' for consumers. Realizing that their product will never be on Newegg, or with deep discount third party sellers. Even their third party seller page points to a long expired domain in the USA. I hope they will hire a marketing guy, or realize this.. I'd snatch up a nice "Family Pack" license for 10 'devices' for Dr. Web, just price it so it's reasonable ($50 or whatever). As it is right now there isn't any real reason to try or deploy it IMO.

I'm hopeful it will make a recovery in broader markets.

The "Family Pack" only for 5 devices. If it more - Dr.Web Enterprise Suite.

Not enough.. Dr. Web for consumers is 'vastly' more expensive than even our most expensive enterprise offering. I can offer a variety of enterprise packages to cover a small company that are cheaper than the 5PC home license for Dr. Web. I do not feel they are realistic with their pricing. Dr. Web needs to hire a business development manager or something. Imagine how much more they would make if they branched off into UTM, had competitive consumer pricing models, and aggressively marketed it as an alternative, effective product in other regions?

Wish I'd remembered my last few installs and usage from prior Dr.Web products, because I installed 10 and it is tied for last with McAfee as far as usage and function. This is a major hog and slow and connecting with any web resources is just inhumane. I'm outta here.

I just renewed my license for one year for one pc and it was like 20 bucks, not bad. plus I like the new version and have to admit it runs lighter then any previous version. :)

I've never been interested in products that refuse to participate in tests. To state that people using them don't get infected is not an argument. Testing is not the only metric of course, but it certainly gives an indication in a limited environment.

i dont think its really *to* heavy. i tested it and i do actually like it. it is a bit heavy more so than i normally use but something about dr web has always tried to lure me back. but the cost is WAY to high unless you are renewing imo.
