I successfully uninstalled HDM 14 and Media Builder software. Rebooted. No problem installing and running HDM 15 Suite (Windows 8.1 64) However The RMB Wizard never completes. After inserting the USB flash drive, it starts writing to USB drive and quickly gets to about 75% (see attached picture). Then it just sits there. So I can't create a boot usb. Any help or suggestions?
Did you install WADK? If you didn´t, the Wizard should use the WinRE, but perhaps there is some problem with it or with the Windows recovery partition, which contains the WinRE. You could try to install WADK for Windows 8.1 and try again. Another option is to use the Linux boot media. Edit. It can also be a problem with the USB key. Try to use the Wizard to create an ISO. If it succeeds, you can use use Rufus to build a boot USB key with the ISO.
I used the built in Recovery Media Builder 3.0. Also I just tried to use the Wizard to create an ISO but there is no ISO option, unless I choose Linux. Has anyone got this to work without installing more (WADK?) software? What is WADK stand for? EDIT: I successfully created a Linux Boot USB flash drive. I booted USB, HDM started, but my backups are in pVHD format, and the Linux boot (unless I did something wrong) wouldn't/couldn't find my pVHD backup. Now what?
WADK is a MS software that can be used to create WinPE 5.0 boot media. The download is 4+ GB, the software must be installed before using it. Once installed, the Paragon wizard should detect it automatically. If not, you can point it to the location in the C: partition. http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=39982 The Linux boot medium with HDM 15/14 can be used to create and restore PVHD images. To restore, select the restore option, point to the image location and select the .PFI file.
My mistake on the Linux boot. Once I booted Linux, I opened the Archive wizard for pVHD archives, and found the *.pfi file. Yeah! Also, update: I inserted a different usb flash drive, and the Recovery Media Builder successfully created a WinPE boot media. Good! Now I have two flash drives (one Linux and one WinPE) that both boot and find the pVHD backup-images. Final issue: How can I create a bootable CD/DVD or iso using the Recovery Media Builder? The RMB Wizard doesn't give me that option. Thanks for your help!!
You can create a WinPE ISO if you use WADK, but not if you use WinRE. This is a bug, it doesn´t happen with other imaging programs, and should have been corrected in the latest RMB 3.0 version, but apparently it wasn´t.
