Corsair Dominator DDR4 Memory Now on Pre-order

I'm looking forward to it. I've entirely skipped over DDR3 (my personal systems are still using DDR2). It'll be a few more years till we start seeing DDR4 supporting mainboards, but that'll be the next full system upgrade build for me.

 

They should be coming pretty soon, at least before the year is over. Surely they wouldn't sell the RAM until we're close to seeing a motherboard that can use it.

 

Intel is probably going to support it this year https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SkyLake_(microarchitecture)

AMD though, they might be another year. But we probably won't be seeing a ton of boards from either that support DDR4 till this time next year, if even that soon. And then another few years while the boards mature revision wise.

 

Interesting, but I wonder what type of apps will really profit from DDR4? And what about video games?

 

DDR4 will be extremely beneficial for memory extensive applications that require high bandwidth, like AutoCAD, Maya, Revit, Rhino, Animation, Cat scan or CT scan imaging, nextgen games, and servers. (basically anything that requires high bandwidth). The power efficiency will also benefit micro servers and ultra thin client applications.

I'll probably skip DDR3, and go straight to DDR4 for my next custom build desktop.

 

Cloud computing is another, telecommunication and data retrieval/transfer.
