I wouldn't recommend it. I wasn't all that fond of their full backup program which I own and don't use. Frankly if they aren't will to learn I would stay away from imaging/recovery programs. They will only get themselves in trouble. If you are close by either teach them or do it for them.

I've had excellent results with Aomei Backupper. For what I need it for, it has been perfect. That being said, this is a new program and I would test it first before I tried it on someones system--especially if they were computer illiterate. From the description, it is an interesting piece of software but being new and not well tested makes it ideal for people like me who like to test this sort of software, but not for someone who hasn't been using imaging software for years.

From what I read on their website this is in no way a complete image backup solution. It will only image the system partition, and it will only store it on the local HDD. The target partition will be hidden (no drive letter). Only full images, no differential or incremental images.

They market it as a replacement for the factory recovery partitions, and I think they do have a point here. Every manufacturer handles these factory recovery partitions in a different way, in many cases it just restores the original partition including all the preinstalled trial crap while ignoring the changes the user may have made. Getting rid of this original factory recovery partition and creating a replacement with this AOMEI software is probably a good idea.

But again, this is not a full backup solution. Better than not doing any backups for sure, but doesn't come close to the security a full image to an external drive can provide.

    Cheers

It´s a new implementation of an idea first introduced by Acronis or Paragon several years ago, and integrated in their full imaging programs. The original aim was to protect the images putting them in a special, hidden partition.

Rrrh1, sure... an easy occasional replacement of the factory reinstall partition, BUT... that's only as good as the hard disk itself on the computer. You lose that, you lose your ability to recover from anything.

Yes I would go further to say that the OneKey recovery is a stupid idea for ppl registered as a wilders here, because members here are supposed to know much better than average joe in computers.

The whole idea of backup/recovery onto/from the same HDD is a bad idea.

It isn't necessarily. I keep a copy of the system partition image on the same disk for convenient restoration but I always keep a separate copy on an external disk, often two copies on two different disks. I've done very few restorations due to disk failure. In most cases, the disk gives plenty of warning signs before it happens and I move things to a new disk well before the disk fails.

Looked into the program from a VM requires quite a bit of space on the system drive.

    Rant mode on...

This person has had to use the factory restore partition 4 times since January, they just won't listen to advice.
If the weren't a relative I would just send them to Best buy Geek Squad.

Thought about using this to stop having to remove all the crap-ware and updating the OS and other software but looks like you can't update the created restore image. (easily)

I sometimes think they enjoy annoying me with their computer problems ?

    Rant mode off...

    Hi rrrh1

There is a solution to your problem. Tell them what to do once. Then if they don't listen, tell them to take their machine to a repair shop to get it fixed. Let them pay for it.

I agree with hard drives, i have none fail without warnings from hdsentinel monitoring program.

I do have a ssd in the mix and that does worry me as some seem to go suddenly
Not sure how good hdsentinel is at predicting SSD death yet
