Let's hope that rkent will succeed with his plan. As far as I'm concerned, I would be willing to donate some money in order to help financing full-time developers. I think that Thunderbird is still the best email client available. It will be needed also in the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately I had to get rid of it after using it for many years. Lately twice it deleted my Inbox completely without any reasons or warning.:(

I'm sorry for that. Perhaps your profile was corrupted? I haven't had this problem ever. Which alternative are you using now?

I don't think it was a problem with my profile because I have read on some forum that it also happend to other people. Since two weeks now I am using "eM Client" and I must that I am very please with it.

I also gave up on Thunderbird a while ago (I'm using Sylpheed now), but I'd love to see them get past this "frozen" situation they are in right now...

I can't use that since I'm running Linux.

Wrong. Thunderbird should be a full-featured mail client. Improve the security as needed and support new standards, but leave or move these other bells and whistles to extensions.

I see. Any reason why you don't prefer Claws Mail?

Yes, although it actually has the features which I need. That doesn't mean that there are no improvements possible, of course - rkent mentions some.

    What's wrong with its security?

Currently, probably nothing. I was referring to the future; I should have said improve security as needed.

True, but it still has some issues that bother me. For instance, the lack of a powerful logging system (that includes POP/SMTP/IMAP handshake logging). Another issue I have with Thunderbird is the fact that it doesn't get email from all accounts if they are set up with their own Inbox folders (it works perfectly if you link all your accounts to a single Inbox).

Still happy with Thunderbird as it's the closest to Outlook Express or Claws you'll ever get.

Surely Mozilla will keep pushing out the rapid releases as they have been.

FYI: https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging. I notice there are some related open bugs focused on improvements.
FWIW, I've used Thunderbird to automatically retrieve email from multiple accounts and put each account's email in its own Inbox. Plus, there are several "Get New Messages" options: get new messages for a specific account, get new messages for the currently selected account (F5), and get new message for all accounts (Shift-F5). Which seemed to work OK for me.

I've got Thunderbird set up the same way as you and everything works okay for me too.

I know about external (debugging?) logging and it works, but I was talking about proper logging, that can be accessed through TB's interface.

I know, others told me the same thing, it seems to be a pretty hard bug to reproduce... :(
