Okay Im using both StartPage and Privatesearch.net and they suppose to use google engine and give exact same results.
However when I search for the following:

jittsi for iphone in Startpage, I get 1 result....
Full text of "A curious herbal ?containing five hundred cuts, of the ...

jittsi for iphone in Privatesearch.net gives me 2 results...
    Volume I
Full text of "A curious herbal ?containing five hundred cuts, of the ...

Same search via google or big gives me 581,000 results.
What is going ono_O Why are both StartPage and Privatesearch inferior?

If you check right at the top it says

"Did you mean: jitsi for iphone"

click it, its just fixed the spelling for you, should yield same results as google did I just checked it now and it does.

Not sure if spelling has anything to do with it, but were you meaning jitsi (not jittsi) as in the Video Conferencing SW? Google has some pretty "intelligent suggestions" for spelling errors. Maybe theres a difference in Startpage for spelling, but I don't know. Havent tried the other SE you speak of. FWIW I too have found that Google turned up many more results when I just decided to look and see a while back.

Thank you so much!!! Yes indeed this was misspelled on purpose. I do make a lot of spelling errors as English is not my native lenguage. I did find the link on StartPage that auto corrects the spelling. Privateserach.net unfortunetly does not have that option. Oh well. Startpage works for me.

I get the same results if I spell jitsi with one t. Except, the first few results in startpage are ad related. The first 3, to be exact are ad releated. But the rest are exactly the same as Google. If you spelled it wrong in both google and startpage, then google offers search results for the correct spelling. Starpage does not. It just asks "did you mean jitsi for iphone"?

You can check the results between Startpage and Ixquick search engines.
Both versions of the service use the same IT-systems.

The difference between Ixquick and Startpage is that Ixquick makes use of the search results
from a multitude of search engines whereas Startpage relies on the results from one
search engine; (Google) both, without forwarding personal data.

Ixquick search engine uses the "star system" which ranks its results
by awarding one star for every result that has been returned from a search engine.
(hover on the star to see what search engines were used on your search results)

Ixquick does not use "Google" as one of it's search engine results.

The number of results should be different between the 2 search engines.

StartPage in my experience consistently gives fewer results than Google on those searches that have few enough results that I can manually count the number of results. That's why I usually use Disconnect Search instead of StartPage.

Did you go into Settings and change the settings for "Web/picture family filter" to "Do not filter my results". And also under video filter, uncheck "Enable". It is enabled by default. So unless you go in and change these your search results will be filtered. Then you can click on "Generate URL" and save it as your Home Page.

I'll have top consider this when doing serious research. I had assumed that it showed everything.

Example: hips gartner site:www.wilderssecurity.com at StartPage gives me 0 results, while Google has more than zero results for the same query.

Very interesting! I got the same 0 results as you did with startpage (with all filters set to "off"), although doing the same search at DuckDuckGo gave me 12 results, while IXquick (which is owned by the same company as startpage) gave me 20 results.

No, they searched: "hips gartner site:www.wilderssecurity.com"

That means searching within wilderssecurity.com for "hips garter".
