    Hello,

I was looking at a way to encrypt a text file and found cryptoguard.
The way it works seems a little counter-intuitive to me and i am looking for an alternative.

I would like to launch a encrypted text file with an extension like cryptoguards and then be asked for the password to decrypt it.
The way crypto pad works is that it shows the garbled text file and you need to click on the menu item/icon to get to the password for it to show the text file.

Are there any text editors/viewers that work that way?

    thanks

I've never used cryptoguard but what about:
    a) .txt or .docx or other file extension zipped with password by using freeware 7zip?
    b) gpg4win (you can encrypt file/text but you need pair of keys - private and public - with you)

    a) sounds promising.
Do i double click the file or can i launch the txt file from a shortcut?

I can see it unzipping it for me after i put in the password.
Is that how you envisage it working?

    b) I am not familiar with public/private keys.
I guess i would need to decrypt it first then launch it?
Sounds like more hassle than cryptopad to me.

    thanks

Have you considered AxCrypt? If I'm correctly understanding what you're trying to do, it should work well.

ad. a) when you will try to extract zipped file you will be asked about password to this file. After extract will have done you should see .txt file inside folder.

ad. b) 1. encrypt file using your keys. 2. right click on decrypted file and from explorer shell menu choose decrypt/verify. 3. you will be asked for pass. 4. decryption done if pass match to key you have used to encrypt file. (if you have used public key someone else - only this person will be able to decrypt this file).
