This is a somewhat humoristic and sad article about technologically useful yet extremely annoying software that people must use out of lack of choice, with functionality ruined by greed. The shortlist, the most annoying of them all. Enjoy. Or rather, not. Enjoy pause not.

You're too kind for Firefox. Those liars should get at least 4 out of 5 F rating. :argh:

I use Skype 3 for Windows and Symbian version on an old and good Nokia phone with Wifi. Microsoft has disabled my favorite version of Skype since last year but I found that disabling access to ui.skype.com through hosts files, routers and firewalls disables the MS disabling. They haven't bothered with the Nokia version or it is too simple for it to work.

I use Firefox 23 and found that installing version 12 which is my favorite and then upgrading to 23 preserves my customizations. Firefox has gone down but not as far as Opera. I would add the new Opera to your list and give it a 5/5. Taking one of the most powerful browsers around that gives the user incredible control over web content and turning it into a dumbed down chromium clone deserves the highest rating.

More than a couple years ago I went back & got uTorrent 2.04 build 22967. I am never updating uTorrent again. This version is peaches & cream.

Skype, uTorrent and Windows 8 for me. They are not that annoying to me ;)

  8. Igor,

You should differentiate Firefox for OS, on Windows it deserves at least one more finger, because of the limited out of process processing feature and lacking low-untrusted Integrity rights sandbox.

I find iTunes (on Windows at least) and Kies, which is Samsung's alternative to iTunes for android to be 5-birds annoying, but I still have to use them because of Apple and Samsung devices.

Skype on Windows is ok - although it should be much better given Microsoft's resources, but the mobile versions (android at least) are annoying. Java and Flash do not annoy me per se, they are just not secure.

What is it about Firefox that people don't like? I have used it as my default browser for years and like it, compared to IE, Chrome, and of course Opera. I have switched to Chrome as my default a few times, and found it OK, but I always go back to FF.

I prefer Chrome because it's faster on my system and I also like it's built in security mechanisms (sandbox, low integrity level).

'Skype' ... rhymes with 'hype'. :argh:

I remember when it didn't seem to be a PITA. :isay:

Hahaha indeed. You can't even natively import bookmarks. The workaround doesn't work on 64-bit. :argh:

    Anything. :D

    1. Flash annoy me to no end...waiting for its official death.

    2. Firefox need to speed up it's progress in transitioning to a sandbox model. Absolutely hate Firefox on Android though...slow and the UI sucks.

    3. Win8 is plagued by an annoying and cumbersome UI for desktop users. Otherwise, it's a decent OS under the hood.

I don't currently have UTorrent installed on any boxes, but have the installer for 2.2.1, and that's the one I'd use if I went back to it again. Always hang onto the installers when you have a good/stable version of something. Something I've learned. I don't think I'm on the current build of any software at all come to think of it.

Flash does suck, but we've got a long time to go before it dies off on the web. Skype is nothing like it used to be, it's atrocious and I refuse to use it. Firefox, eh, whatever. Win 8, same.

That it's being changed into a heavier, less stable version of Chrome. That a former N.S.A. code breaker is now one of the heads of their department. That ever since this happened is when these radical changes began taking place. That I don't believe that to be coincidence...

I personally thought they were being too kind on Firefox. Everything else is spot on.

I forgot how much I hate the new Opera. Wanted to block it out. Used it since it was payware. Opera gave up on Opera so so did I 5/5.

As time goes on, Firefox is looking and functioning more and more like Chrome. Thankfully, we have addons like Classic theme restorer that we can use to restore Firefox to how it was before the Chrome taking over trend started messing up Firefox.

But if Mozilla changes how Firefox works underneath, there ll be nothing that we could do. Some of you like to see sandboxing in Firefox. I love sandboxing but Firefox works great (no conflicts) as it is now running under SBIE. I had a long and enjoyable ride running Firefox with NoScript under SBIE and I am afraid that will change if Firefox continues to move toward Chrome. As long as that don't happen, Firefox will remain out of my annoying apps list.

Agree! The list is too short to my liking. I would add Facebook, IE, Firefox, Nero and many others. However I realize that what annoys me, needn't annoy others. :)

Love the rigid digits ... a dedoimedo classic! Interesting how much FF has fallen out of favor with so many users. It used to be IE that owned that space. Does this mean that IE is off Mr. D's radar? With the introduction of Onedrive I thought MS would have received at least 3 digits.
