Sandboxie virtualization too slow for video performance?

Noticed a huge difference in speed when running CCleaner registry cleaning inside compared to outside of a sandbox! (Sandboxie also shows that CCleaner doesn`t really shutdown after its window is closed - maybe that happens outside of a sandbox as well?) But about performance does Sandboxie sometimes have a noticeable impact on graphics then? Because even with the mightiest GPU new scenery can still be stuck in disk i/o traffic! Fx. compare the game CoH running from different USB3 storages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF-SBypQBuw), does Sandboxie do something similar

 

That depends on how you use Sandboxie. If the sandbox is deleted after closing the app then no. But if you want to keep the application`s data in registry (virtually) written by its installation files and thus keep the sandbox, then it might use some cleaning after also uninstalling some programs from the (virtual) registry.

But if you notice lag/stutter graphics issues in an application running fullscreen and the FPS is high enough, how can you be sure that it is not because of Sandboxie`s layer of disk search redirections etc.?

 

Smuck, if you are having problems with videos when you are running sandboxed, you should look for a conflict. Perhaps, Flash Protected mode conflicts in your computer with Firefox and/or Sandboxie. In my personal case, watching videos in my two computers its not perfect but it works fine. Slowdowns, lags, stuttering is something that doesn't happen at all. Look for the conflict.

About CCleaner and SBIE. I agree with Pete, there's no reason to run CCleaner sandboxed. You mentioned "uninstalling some programs from the (virtual) registry" as the reason to run CCleaner sandboxed but in Sandboxie to get rid of programs that are installed in a sandbox, you delete the sandbox, you don't uninstall nothing.

Some applications REQUIRE certain data (license etc) in registry before they will run, so you have to keep that sandbox for continously runs of those apps. And in the meantime you might have installed and then uninstalled some other programs to the same virtual registry, so CCleaner will find trash.

Still you ought to check out how slow CCleaner registry cleaning works inside a sandbox, because it`s really slow like 5-10 times slower!

 

I run all kind of programs under Sandboxie but running CCleaner sandboxed has never crossed my mind. But I ll run it later after I close Firefox to see about the speed. If you are going to continue running CCleaner in a sandbox, you ought to add CCleaner in the lingering programs window, doing that perhaps kills the process that you see running (as you mentioned in the opening post) in Sandboxie control when you exit CCleaner.
