Are there any free alternatives to Classic Shell anyone would recommend? I'm for some reason looking for a change, unless CS is really the best one. I say free, but if it was good, I wouldn't be against paying a small amount.

Classic Shell is the only one I've installed, but here's a link with a list. I would try Start8 by Stardock though it's not one of the free ones.

I'm using Start8 on my main computer and I like it but I don't see much difference. You can install 30-day trial and see if you like it better than Classic Shell.

I prefer Start Menu X to Classic Shell. The free version works fine and let's you also bypass the metro screen at start up if you like. (I even use their other start menu products to replace the regular windows start menu on my win 7 machines).

Not sure why you are looking for an alternative to Classic Shell - I have tried Start 8, StartIsBack, and others and find Classic Shell best for my preferences. Unless you are having problems with it, I'd stick with Classic Shell.

I don't have a problem with Classic Shell. I guess I'm just itching to try something new.
