Superbird -- it's a legit browser & zzzippy fast

I grabbed Superbird from Softpedia. It's one of 8 browsers I have tried in the past few days. Superbird is BY FAR the fastest of them all.

I read through 2 previous Wilders posts concerning Superbird. Both of them have a bit of FUD. Superbird is clean as a whistle per Avast and Virus Total. It's a Chromium-based browser & very stable. Repeat: It's the fastest browser I have found to date.

 

Does it use peper or npapi flash and pdf?

 

It's not about being listed on reputable download library or get clean results from VirusTotal, it's because this is another web browser which is exploiting the NSA scandal and exaggerating their claims of privacy advantages, pretty much like Iron. You can make Chrome to be more private, and if you want an even more stripped version there's always Chromium. There really is not much of these so-called privacy-oriented Chromium forks can offer. If I really want a proper privacy protection then I'll just use a paid and reputable VPN, and even with that there's nothing can guarantee they won't betray you because all we have is only their claims about how much they log you.

EDIT: Yes, I don't think it installs a trojan dropper, log your keystrokes and transmits it to a remote server, and mess around with your HOSTS file. I'm sure Superbird is legitimate as a software, but nothing more.

 

Is it using the current version of Chromium (35.0.1916.153)?

I agree, it's just another play on fears. And, just like Iron, it "protects" you from supposed Chrome issues that aren't really issues at all, just misunderstood. I figured this browser was long dead. It was nonsense years ago when it was last discussed here, and that hasn't changed. If you're that desperate for a speedy browser, block ads, turn off javascript (or use HTTPSB/NoScript) and otherwise leave the browser extension-less.

 

My only "fear" is more of the same FUD via the Google Defense League (GDL)

Please read again my original post, plus the title for this thread. I like Superbird because, on my computer, it opens web pages waaay faster than other browsers I have used, including Chrome. I didn't say a word against Google's Chrome -- it's a fairly fast browser and nicely designed -- but the GDL evidently views Superbird as a competitor, so they come swarming in. Hmmm... it seems the GDL is getting every bit as aggressively defensive as the Comodo Commandos.

I'm looking for SPEED. So far, for me, Superbird is fastest & K-meleon is a close second. As for security, I do not particularly rely on browsers to protect my computer. I have "browser-independent" apps for doing that.

Now then, if someone knows of a really fast browser -- faster, perhaps, than Superbird -- then THAT's the kind of info I would really appreciate seeing.

 

Have you tried Maxthon lately?! I think it is the fastest browser that I've ever used.

 

Iron was around well before the NSA scandal surfaced so this is not a very smart argument. Anyway, what exactly is a 'legit' browser?

 

And Iron exploited Google's tracking issue (which is somehow was not really apocalyptic for so many people before PRISM was revealed to the public's eyes), so essentially it's the same thing.

Nah, Google Defence Force sounds better.

 

I will check it out, the newest Opera was a disaster on my 8 year old PC, and Chrome is joke of a browser, so I´m hoping for the best.

 

I agree, I haven't run anything faster than Maxthon. I use it as my predominant browser at least 95% of the time now.

 

Yes it is Fast & yes it seems to be Legit. I have used it for a while & so far can find nothing I dislike about it.
