Webroot SecureAnywhere

I'm after honest opinions from those of you who have this installed either as a trial, or who have a paid subscription and are genuinely satisfied with the results thus far. The question I have which to me is most important is:

Does this Software Offer the same/ or equal to other Antivirus Products that are rated Highly on the av comparatives scoresheet, and I have no intention of this becoming a A vs B thread a simple YES/NO/MAYBE answer will sufice
Currently I have just installed it as a 6 month trial from My Bank

DVD-R just keep an eye on your explorer mem usage. WSA is known to have high mem use in Win 8.1 64 bit.

well, seeing as i provide webroot as a option for my clients and im VERY VERY picky about what i offer i would say yes i can recc it to you. in numbers i would say i have more than 300-400 (maybe closer to 500+ cant be sure till i check my logs at the office) i can HONESTLY say yes it has it quirks but i have had less calls about infections than with MANY other av's i cant say its the least of any because im not sure if that is true but is is VERY low. the only real calls i get are about the rare keyboard typing issue in ie and some calls about it being expired without the person knowing because they did not see a notification. but otherwise there have been a handful of other small issues here and there very few of them.

why not trial it and test it out. my only personal gripes are the web shield requires the plug in to be turned on and i feel it needs better notifications so you know better when its going to expire, otherwise i highly recc you trying it out.

they are just very different imo. i personally have webroot on some of my own household pc's and avira on others and then eset on the rest (we have 13 pc's total between laptops and desktops in the house). if i had to use only one out of those honestly i would (i think its a tough choice there) not know which i would run. as far as protection goes and example is my mother in law. she is what i call a "happy clicker" she will click on anything that looks tempting. she has had installed (only ONE at a a time) over the last 3-4 years, eset, avast, norton, avira, and webroot. each and every time i installed a product she somehow would get infected. i would then try something else. no one product lasted for the whole year until i used webroot. so far she is halfway through her second lic with webroot and i have not had to remove an infection this whole time since installing it. while i see sometimes it does not test as well i can say from my use with family and clients its REAL world protection has been stellar. i get zero from selling a webroot over any others we carry also. i do not get free lic's i buy even my own.

 

tough choice for sure. I think maybe the option I'll take is "If it's not broke! .. don't fix it!.. thanks anyway

 

I've used Webroot on 2 desktops and one laptop for two years. (Before that I had NOD32, Kaspersky and Norton.) During that time, I have had just one nasty virus sneak through, which deleted my Windows Update services (and a couple of other services) that prevented my Win 7 x64 machine from getting the monthly M/S updates. Unfortunately, Webroot's rollback feature did not correct the issue. So, I had to restore my machine from an image.

As a gamer, I find Webroot to be is unintrusive and does not slow down my machine. To be honest, it's probably the lightest A/V I've used to date.

The only quibble I have is that the various patches to the games I play get classified as "unknown" files by Webroot. This causes Webroot to journal all the changes these patches make to a folder called WRDATA, and this folder sometimes grows in size to be several GB's. (The highest I've seen it is 6.5GB.) Every month or so, I will e-mail a log that contains all these unknown files to Webroot's tech support. Within 24hrs, tech support whitelists these files, and I'm good to go until the next round of game (and other program) patches. (BTW, after Tech Support whitelists my unknown files I have to uninstall and reinstall Webroot to get the WRDATA folder size back down to less than 100MB, which just takes a couple of minutes to do.)

 

it gave my system freezes when i am not online !! so uninstalled !!

 

Regarding the WRDATA folder I gave Joe at Webroot the idea of "monitor" that folder for extreme sizes. This should raise a flag at Webroots cloud, telling them to take a look why your WRDATA folder is growing big. Then they would find both false positives and malware faster without having the costumer sending them log files. I do not think that this feature is implemented yet (if it ever will, maybe it does not work to do it that way?)
I really miss Joe and his insight here on Wilders.
Anyways, how many in a hundred users (even thousands) would send them log files of this, the average user does not even know that the WRDATA folder exists.

I have used WSA/antivirus for a coupel of years now, on XP, Vista and Win7 all three 32bit, and all along with Defensewall, and I have not yet having a serius issue with infection. There have bin a small amount of false positives along the road thats all, and I have no intension to change back to whatever it could be, it simply works great for me.

 

I'm riding this train as well....it just works! Nothing has slipped through! I have a mother-in-law that is click happy as well and after issues with some of the major vendors (no names), she is now on WSA Complete. So far so good.
