Code Spaces destroyed by cyber criminals

The company’s data and backups deleted during an attack after an extortion attempt.

I saw that on that site earlier. What a terrible thing to do. They need to work harder to get these guys.

 

Wow, this is quite serious, are they really going out of business? This is proof that malware is no joke nowadays.

If the hackers managed to access (and delete) their backups, that means they didn't have proper backup procedures in place. Sad...

 

A cache of Code Spaces services includes promises of full redundancy and that code is duplicated and distributed among data centers on three continents.

“Backing up data is one thing, but it is meaningless without a recovery plan, not only that a recovery plan – and one that is well-practiced and proven to work time and time again,” Code Spaces said. “Code Spaces has a full recovery plan that has been proven to work and is, in fact, practiced.”

I have three backups of my system and important data and two of them are offline. I don't know what was on their minds when they designed their backup and recovery system.

But, anyway, I think the important issue here is the criminal action against a business and its customers.

 

Sounds like they took control of the AWS cloud accounts, so both live and backup stores were compromised. It's not that normal that you'd have to cater for this kind of threat model, but I guess that's our dismal world now.
