I cannot activate Windows online. Error code 0x800702c7. I attempted to call them, but the # shown on my PC has eleven digits so.....does anyone have a # that might work. I am in the USA.

Thanks Ron.....I get nothing but error messages. I did manage to locate some phone #s on my own that might work. I'll post back tomorrow.

you need to tell us more about your build:

    laptop?

pre-installed win7 or from a disk...do you still have the disk?

    manufacturer?

11 digits, eh? Keys are 25 alpha-numeric....look again.

Yes, I have a disk. I have reinstalled a number of times over the years without issue. I have been thinking there is a limit to doing this set by MS so......
I was referring to the phone # that showed up on my PC when I tried to activate via their automated phone system method, not the license #.

If it's Windows 7, yes, there is a limit to how many installs you can do before it starts failing to activate. I forget how many, but it's fairly low. You should be able to just call the number provided on the PC window to activate by phone in the U.S. 11 digits is 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx, right? I have done it by phone many times, and then just write down the code they give you to avoid the problem in future re-installs.

Hello Kerodo.....No, that is the problem. I am seeing +-xxx-x-xxx-xxxx odd for sure. I must be not understanding something. Being long distance I would have to add a 1 on front of it all.

Hmmm.. The only thing I can think of is when I choose activate by phone, the first window I get is one where there is a drop-down menu to select which country I want (using the Win 7 SP1 install disk/ISO). Maybe you're missing that? Otherwise, I don't know why the number would be so odd.

rainwalker send me a pm with more info. brand, model and windows version. should not be hard to get it working and you should not have to call them to activate it. we should be able to activate it manually if need be.

What I did was to go to 'Computer' properties, Windows Activation, Activate Windows Online Now, Info informing me Windows Activation cannot go online (even when I open the firewall gates), Show Other Ways To Activate and Use Auto Phone System. It is at this point I receive an error message. I then close error message, the drop-down window appears with nothing to choose from. I then click NEXT and the window pops up with the number to call and all the rest that is required after I receive the info from MS.

UPDATE: Had to call in and got activated. Thanks again for the help. Also got aggravated. First person I spoke with I could not understand. Spoke rapid terrible English. Called again and he was understandable. With all their $ why do they need to cut corners like that...UGH. I don't understand why I had to go through it. Nothing has changed on my box. The guy I spoke with said there is no limit on how many times I can reinstall. Some online say there is. Does anyone know more about this?

My personal experience with Win 7 when I bought it in late 2009 was that I installed it from scratch maybe 5 or 6 times, then it stopped activating. So as far as I know, it is limited to a relatively small number of installs. Also had issues when I changed hardware, but in every instance, I was able to just do the automated phone activation, read the codes to the phone activator and then got the activation codes in return.

As for changes in hardware, on a laptop, simply adding a 24" monitor with keyboard and mouse was enough to cause problems and require new codes.

Edit: Ok, here is a link from an MS site that more or less confirms what I said above, if you purchased a boxed product (I did), then you get 5 activations, after that, you have to phone in:

    @z....Thanks...will keep that in mind.
@Kerodo....I did what you did to get activated. My copy was pre-installed, but on a custom machine. End product included the installation disk. That must have been considered "boxed product" by the system.....thanks.

My cousin laptop is Win 7 64. OS was preinstalled. No OS disc was received. There was recovery drive. But now it is empty. Guess somehow they accidently deleted it or dont know how it got deleted.

I am planning to reinstall. This is the first time that the system will be reinstalled i.e no prior reinstall.
How can I reinstall Win 7 64 now? Can I download Win 7 64 from somewhere & install? Is it possible? Any activation prob?

I myself had Vista 64 & upgraded to Win 7 64. Got Win 7 64 upgrade disc free as part of promotion. I had done Clean Install i.e no upgrade install. It installed & activated without probs.
Can I use this upgrade disc to reinstall my cousin system? And would there be prob for activation?

    We both have HP laptops.
    His is HP Pavilion DV3T
    Mine is HP Pavilion DV4T-1400
