Is Truecrypt discontinued?

What do you think about this? Which version of truecrypt would you use if this is true?

Yes, the project has shut down. Use version 7.1a or earlier. Avoid version 7.2.

I still say go with 7.1 (no "a"). I never trusted "a" in the first place, even before all this crap hit the fan. There were subtle little things I mentioned in another post I didn't like. Not to mention... why not just make that one v 7.2 instead of 7.1a? And the checksums of the new, known shady version (7.2) having the same checksum as 7.1a. That may be a hint associating the two versions with one another, and not to trust them. And that "a" being one of the letters of that 3 letter outfit hinted at in the message doesn't sit well with me either.

Sure this could all be just paranoia, and a hunch. But the way I see it... why take the chance? Very little is different between the two. I'd rather be safe than sorry and just go with 7.1

 

What? I don't think so. I haven't checked this personally (as I haven't downloaded the new version), but I think it's highly unlikely.

As I see it, TrueCrypt has never been fully trustworthy, for a great many reasons. If you use TrueCrypt (any version) then you should not expect your encrypted data to withstand the scrutiny of a major adversary. There are simply too many unknowns.

 

And yet there are numerous very high profile cases where the FBI and others have been left holding an empty bag. It would seem to me that if "they" could have opened the volumes for something that urgent they would have. Just my take, hoping not to be proven wrong in the near future.
