You want us to share our settings or do you need help setting ESET up? They have great built-in help that you can access clicking on '?'. If you would like our help then you will have to tell us what you want to achieve.

Advanced setup for real-time file system protection -> I move the slider to, 'No cleaning'.

On-demand computer scan -> I move the slider to, 'No cleaning'.

Startup scan -> I move the slider to, 'No cleaning'.

Under User Interface-> graphics, I uncheck, 'Show splash-screen at startup'.

Under User Interface-> Alerts and Notifications, I uncheck, 'Display notifications on desktop'.

Under User Interface -> Context menu -> menu type, I change it to, 'Full (scan first)'.

This is all I can remember for now. I will post more if anything else comes to mind.

Here are the changes I make to default settings:

Document protection: enable integrate into system
Exclusions: disable Utorrent temporary download folder
Removable media: disable action to take after inserting removable media
Email clients: action to be performed on infected mail - move email to the Deleted items folder
Email client integration: disable all except Integrate into Microsoft Outlook
Protocol filtering - Excluded applications: exclude Utorrent and Virtualbox
ESET Live Grid - Advanced setup: Enable logging
Idle state detection: disable all three options
Graphics: disable Show splash-screen at startup
Context menu: switch to Full (scan first)

    Scheduler:
Regular automatic update: switch interval from 60 to 240 minutes

    I delete this tasks:
    • Automatic update after dial-up connection
    • Automatic update after user logon
    • Automatic startup file check (at user logon)
    • Automatic first scan: after first scan is completed

    I add this tasks:
    • Weekly computer scan
    • Weekly check for latest product version

That's not good, the Rapid Response Module could get an update on one of the hour checks even if no new VSD is downloaded.

I think that 4 hour check is enough to be secure. It also reduces the chance to get definitions with false positives that could affect system or other important files.

Even a 60-minute update interval is too much nowadays; that's why LiveGrid comes into play as it can block new threats within minutes. Also we sometimes update Rapid response module regardless of the standard engine update when there's a need to.
Regarding Document protection, I'd suggest keeping it off unless inevitable. Simply enabling integration of any 3rd party plug-in via the appropriate Microsoft's registry key has adverse effect on performance.

    Hello,

Disabling the "Automatic startup file check (at user logon)" may prevent threats from being detected early. It should only last for under a minute when running; it's not checking the entire system, just various areas malware likes to execute from.

    Regards,

I usually log in once a day (in the morning). Right after login ESET updates itself and performs automatic startup check run by another schedule (startup file check after definitions update). I don't see a good reason to run two scans within a matter of minutes.

I run a scheduled weekly scan - event triggered.

With Smart optimization disabled, same files wouldn't be scanned repeatedly. The two startup scan tasks are not meant to scan same files; however, a startup scan run after user logon should basically scan less than a scan run by the other startup scan task. It wouldn't be a good idea to disable the startup scan after user logon task on multi-user systems.

Did you mean Smart optimization enabled? I checked both schedules and they have indeed different scan levels enabled. In multi-user system scan after logon makes sense, as you said.

Correct, that was a mistake. With Smart optimization enabled, same files wouldn't be scanned repeatedly.

Thanks, I have mirrored these settings. We noticed an immediate performance increase, and shaved off the time to-use machine boot.
