Anyone experience this issue with Firefox lately on the latest build? Ive been noticing that lately I get alot of:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process or restart your system"

    Capture.PNG

Usually results in me opening process explorer and ending the task which is fairly inconvenient as it happens about 10-15 times per day.

Is there any way to find out whats preventing FF from closing? Seems to happen mostly when clicking links in Outlook, but does happen occasionally when it is opened from the task bar as well.

    Im not reseting FF.

This seems to be a "feature" of the latest release of FF. I have had my current addon/settings setup for over 4 months without touching it and never had any issues up until about a week ago or so.

There has to be a way to figure out why Explorer or Outlook wont release a process when its closed.

It's happened to me a few times. I just restart Windows. Takes a minute.

If i go offline with windows still open on FF v3.6.14 & then close them sometime after, i've found it's still actually running in Task Manager etc. Not a big deal, but still !

Add-ons issue. That's all I've got. Tank is empty.

I don't think that is the main problem, as I continued to experience the issue after making the change advised. Something else is going on imho, but I gave up and went back to Chrome. Firefox has well known history of not closing properly on occasion, but every single time I used the browser with this new release was just too much.

I think it is Dave, let me explain. In my XP, I can set Firefox anyway I want and the Firefox doesn't close problem doesnt occur at all. But in my W7, it is very easy to reproduce the issue, all I have to do is set Firefox to "Use custom settings for history" and tick "Clear history when Firefox closes" and the problem occurs immediately. But if I set it up as I have it now, "Never remember history", the problem doesn't happen.

This problem is nonexistent for me. I think that is so because I found the right settings for each of my computers. Settings are different in both computers so I think people having this problem, to solve it, have to find the right settings (regarding history) in their own computer.

Since my post is being quoted, here's the latest update:
Bo is correct regarding settings, however, the above 2 issues are the cause of Firefox not closing for many users.

I've had this in the past but not for a long time and not with FF29. Do you by chance use EMET? I had a problem with a number of apps not properly terminating after being closed when I was running EMET. After removing EMET it stopped.

I do have custom privacy settings configured, but disabling clear history on exit doesnt seem to resolve the issue. For now I am running a batch file to kill the process until Mozilla gets this fixed.

Whitedragon, I suggest you try setting Firefox to "Never remember history". If it works, great. If it doesn't, then you could try "Remember history". I personally don't like remembering history but I can live with Never remember history.

Some interesting info. I copied my home setup, settings, addons, all of it over to my work PC. Work PC does not have the issue. Voodoo.
