I know their results dropped because of backend outages as explained by vlk but from a couple weeks this month the detection rate has come back to its par atleast from my testing here. They seem to have improved alot.

Deepscreen seems to be working well for me.Its finding a bunch of malware for me.Didnt test hardened mode. But since some time,I am seeing alot of deepscreen action.

I know that NG technology was mentioned earlier in development/alpha stage but deepscreen seems really good right now.

hardened Mode just works awesome for me. Testet it on moderat and aggressive. it blocks almost all umknown malwares from execution. For me, if u know how to use avast and twerk it, its one of the beste free antiviruses avaiable(costum install). And anyone who dont like the popups blabla, its realy a first world problem. I realy, realy dont know why so much ppl hate a little popup that u can klick away in 1 second. No they, searching a product that dont give that much popups but have a lower security level. I just dont get it.

I agree. I tried hardened mode on moderate and it works perfectly. It works like an antiexecutable but only with suspicious files. Very good option especially for people who like to click on everything.

Good Evening! Just purchased a 2yr 1pc license $29.99 from the Download Crew for Avast A/V Pro...as mentioned above the hardened mode made itself known in alerting about an update from one of my other apps...which I asked it to allow and add to its exclusion function. Seems that Deep Screen has kicked in and Avast as usual performs flawlessly...so far looks promising. Sincerely...Securon

Hardened mode works in two ways.

Moderate automatically blocks anything that provokes DeepScreen analysis. But instead of doing analysis, it blocks the file straight away.

Aggressive works based on whitelist. Anything secure gets allowed, anything not in the whitelist gets automatically blocked.

For some reason, i found Aggressive mode actually "less aggressive". It only seems to get provoked on program updates of legit software because they don't get the whitelist updated so fast.

Rejzor, do you think deepscreen is good enough now (I remember in the past it detected nothing after analysis) or do you suggest to use hardened mode?

I'm still getting junk mail from IYogi a long time ago when I bought this av and then IY tried to sell me a whole bunch of extra services I didn't need. I still have a bad taste about Avast because of that.

~ Off Topic Comments Removed ~

These tests were made in march/april where avast was recovering from outages and besides all av-tests and av-comparatives samples are shared with AV vendors so eventually avast will catch them.Oh wait! they just test against a few 1000 for a month while there are millions out there in a month. LOL! Stop the rambling and bashing guys it doesnt help avast anyways.Besides as LargerX posted in another topic avast protection hasnt dropped yet for him and me and we both havent seen a user coming back infected after switching to it.

Yeah about the forum hack,I know when its a big name like avast its always going to get some unwanted fuel and rant.I wonder why people dont behave the same way when it happened with avira

Also, the pic talks about computer protection not forum protection!? This is just ridiculous.

While that might be the case it still raises the concern. Why can Kaspersky or Bitdefender consistently score well, yet avast! cannot despite all the innovative technologies they use? And this isn't the first time i'm rambling about it. For years they have innovated various technologies, yet they just couldn't deliver the results. Why? They should be consistently among the best. Especially with cloud that has so many users. Cloud only works well with loads of users and avast! certainly has advantage there...

Deepscreen, Evo-gen, Streaming updates, Dyna-gen, very good anti rootkit capabilities, Avast! Cloud with more than 200 kk users, Hardened Mode; Yeah you are right, Avast! has great technologies and seems to be innovative in the same league as Kaspersky is ...

In 2012 and 2013 I was thinking that Avast! (even in free version) was ready to become top tier because of their innovation capability, but it simple failed to meet the necessary results and this has disappointed me.

It seems that Avast! has great ideas but so so execution of their plans, like the Behavior shield and auto sandbox.

In a Custom Install you have 4 Shields and one of them is the "Web Shield" which you should absolutely install.
Under the 'Tools' you will find "Browser Protection" (which is the Online Security Plug in) for your Browser. This Plug in is Known to cause many issues with Browsing and is not part of the "Essential" security/virus protection of Avast.

Edit: Browser Protection and Web Shield are not the same thing

Well I must say that deepscreen is very good at preventing the system from getting infected.

Also it looks like more often than none, deepscreen dosnt actually pick up the main dropper but it picks up the dropped files in appdata as malware.I would prefer to get the whole thing though. But I did a test and it seems like it really prevented the system from getting infected.4 items were missed in the end by avast, filerepmalware and filerepmetagen got a lot of those out.I had some interesting events in the test.Like I executed new_crypt.exe it gets analyzed by deepscreen as benign and then the file executes a winlogon.exe in appdata that is analyzed by deepscreen and blocked and so the dropper itself is harmless. And I had another sample again deepscreen said its fine and it dropped mcdcs.exe in my documents that again was said as harmless by deepscreen but then mcddcs.exe spawned 1 file in appdata that got killed by avast deepscreen so indirectly those files just sit there but the chain gets broken rendering everything naked. So just had 1 dropped file in my documents that was just harmeless until avast was on.

I found a nasty sample. It spawned regsrvc.exe and deepscreen didnt catch it.It was using the system memory at 90%.After the reboot something odd happened,The file suddenly dissapeared from the memory and startup and avast told me it has it as filerepmetagen. So I guess avast saw it was doing something weird and submitted it in the background and then later the cloud picked up.

Must say that filerep and deepscreen do a great job.Especially deepscreen if it allows the dropper it picks the dropped files which is great.Dont know if AV-c counts that was blocked though for a real user its just cleansed and anything left off is naked and harmless until manually executed while avast is on.

There were 15 undetected samples after execution,it got reduced to 5.Even among those 5 atleast 3 of them would execute fine but the dropped files would get blocked.I would definately love to see some improvement on deepscreen part though. The cloud is excellent at responding to new files.

moms and pops chat - you take handful of samples and make far reaching conclusions. It aint enough ! Why other AVs score consistently high and avast goes down with your superb magnificient deepscreen etc ? Get back to real life and stop being blind avast fan, look at bigger numbers and consistency.

To add That I use a different product on my machine and additionally it doesnt matter,if you read my previous replies I did point out flaws in avast.I started testing just this month and that is the time I am seeing deepscreen work. You can call me whatever you want but for me if it works I use it.You can call me a fan or whatever but I have even used 360,Avira,comodo etc.Its not just me testing with handful even cruelsister does test like that.

Oh yeah! This time I am not going into this type of bad tone chat.If you cant see what vlk posted earlier and put 2x2 then its not anyone's fault and it doesnt change the facts and point that most of these tests are done with just 1000 and there are millions out there.

Oh yeah AV-C doesnt see if the dropped files are blocked or not.If it doesnt block the orginal file its called bypassed.Oh and by the way,AV-C real world tests are with pure links so something with a tremendous web guard and no signature will do 100% but to say about avast we will see what happens when new stuff come on.Oh yeah! about getting a life!? I just commented on this just now I wasnt even defending anything or in this thread before.I have my opinions and my tests,if you dont like it no need to be rude and bashing a AV doesnt work.No offense malware fighter I didnt want to say this.Sorry mate! but these are my opinions and my tests.Dont comment if you dont like it.If you dont mind we are talking about deepscreen and avast here not about AV-C.

Oh yeah, there is no reason for you to be rude and tell me to get a life, please I am not being rude here and you have no authority over anyone's life.Such insulting replies make me damn angry.

as already pointed out here, avast is simply not in big boys league. no matter how many shinny new technologies they advertise.
so stop being so ecstatic over avast, because your "tests" don't mean much.
