Yes, there are complicated trade-offs between privacy and security.

There are also complicated trade-offs between privacy and security for various players. Google, for example, demands privacy in order to better undermine our privacy and security.

But what I know is that I value my privacy and security :)

Of course! How dense of me ;) Without all those Russian dash-cams, we wouldn't have such great documentation of the Chelyabinsk meteor (or all those awesome accidents).

In 20-30 years, there will be cameras in your homes, because criminals do bad stuff usually at home, also to check home violence, child abuse, so on.

They try that here and they'll get images of the installer of that camera being shot.

Well, I wouldn't shoot anyone. But I would mess with the cameras. Mirrors would be a simple solution ;)

I don't care what they're purpose is. If they come in my home uninvited, it's home invasion and I will respond.

The problem is that the cop will be aware of the camera and he will most likely take it and smash it against a ground like a monkey.
The upside of city cameras is that their material is uploaded to central server and it would take a lot more work.

And you need to make sure you have lots of cameras in your own house side loading those images to another location. Because trust me, you respond with lethal force, whether appropriate or not, those cops will go after you and respond with equal force. Best way with cops is to remain cool as long as possible and pursue legal ramifications including civil law suits. In the end you get the last laugh when the cop is sitting in prison like an animal in a solitary confinement.

They'll smash one, two, three, and then all the cameras will be connected to internet through a mobile phone and upload all the data to a server or a home PC.

So, I take it that you're OK with in-home cameras ;) Having nothing to hide, I mean.

This is rapidly becoming a moot point, as more and more of us are carrying cameras around. "They" [insert favorite bogeyman] can just hack the uplinks :(

It's not necessarily a matter of hobbies, interests, or political affiliations. It's not an issue of having something to hide. For myself, what I do, see, or believe is none of their or anyone elses business unless I choose to reveal it. I'll resist mass surveillance and this total invasion of privacy just because I can. I do not and will not support this power grab of theirs in any shape or form.

    I'm reminded of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Have_No_Mouth,_and_I_Must_Scream
As long as they didn't see my displays, I would appear a totally boring workaholic :isay:

Actually, most people would probably think that I am :(

    anyway,

this might be off topic a little but this surveillance society we live in is inevitable.
the world is getting smaller and more crowded all the times.
things are getting worse, not better.
have you folks checked the price of groceries since a couple of years ago?

we are circling the drain in more ways than one and the bean counters have figured that '1984' is here to stay.
