    Hello all!

We'd like to present you the new version of our extension for Chrome.

Some words about our extension first.

    1. What is Adguard?
    2. Why Adguard for Chrome is better than Adblock or AdBlock Plus?
Release version is available in chrome store.

    Changelog

+ We have reduced memory usage even more
+ Extension now uses secured connections to communicate with our servers
+ Added option "Send statistics for ad filters usage"
    + Added "Reset statistics" button
    + Minor UI changes

Let's talk about ad filters usage statistics. This is really important option that will help us to solve the problem of outdated filtering rules.

If you want to understand why it is so important -- take a look at the screenshots:
    1. English+Russian+Social+Spyware filters: http://screencast.com/t/BxoxMpKrXx
    2. All filters disabled: http://screencast.com/t/Kvz3XhTdmUS

    Here is the detailed description.

    How to install this beta-version

    1. Download crx file from http://chrome.adtidy.org/app.html?app=main.crx
    2. Open "chrome://extensions" page
    3. Drag crx file to this page

If you have any question about us, our products or anything else you'd like to know, i'll be glad to answer it.
Also I would really appreciate any feedback you can give me.

I installed your extension along with Ad Muncher and compared them to one another. I have to admit that Adguard munched :p everything what Ad Muncher did and even more. Great job folks! However there is one thing in Adguard I really miss, i.e. filtering of tab icons. Can it be included?

Shall I understand that Adguard doesn't filter completely websites which are in different languages than ad blocker filters? For instance you don't have Czech filter, does it mean that it doesn't filter completely Czech domains? Sorry if that is a silly question but Ad Muncher works quite differently in this respect, it uses only one advert list regardless on languages.

Hm, I don't fully understand what this feature should do. Just blocking site icons?
Give me some time to install Ad Muncher and fight it's trial registration:)

It filters all sites but it could miss some Czech ads in this case. You can still report a missed ads on our forum (http://forum.adguard.com/forumdisplay.php?53-Missed-Ads) or to our support. Until we have no Czech filter - new rules will be added to English filter.

Their trial protection is crazy! Could you please spare my nerves and give me a tip about "filtering of tab icons" feature?

Thanks! It seems it works but not for all pages, e.g. Feedly, Google+ etc. still keeps favicons displayed.

    It should work with feedly.com.

What for Google+, use this rule instead of previous:
    Code:
    /favicon*.ico|

It still will work not on all sites, but on most of them.

For Adguard for Windows users -- you can use these two rules to remove almost all favicons:
    Code:
    /favicon*.ico|
    $$link[rel="shortcut"]

Thanks a lot! From unknown reasons Feedly favicon still shows but G+ is fine now. I don't care more for Feedly favicon. The rest of favicons are removed from the sites I have been visiting what matters for me.

BTW, great support from you @avatar ;) I have disabled Ad Muncher and I will be evaluating your extension a couple of days. Being a long time Ad Muncher user it's hard for me to admit but so far I am quite impressed by Adguard. :thumb:

Do I need to manually check filter updates or are they updated automatically?

    Glad to hear it:)

Extension checks filter updates every 12 hours.

    Wonderful :)

I have already used "Block ad on this website" function and it works flawlessly. More and more amazed ... ;)

Using Beta version of the extension, its updates are also done automatically?

    Yes it is.

Using this beta version from chrome.adtidy is like using beta update channel.
You will always get newest updates (not stable though).

First trouble and quite fundamental ... when "Send statistics for ad filters usage" is enabled my browser gets almost stuck, unresponsive and is heavily exploiting RAM with high disk activity what later ends up in unusable machine. When this option is disabled, everything's back to normal.

Opera 20 stable channel. Adguard beta 1.0.1.4.

It's true - this feature causes higher CPU usage.
This is caused by the way how we check CSS filters usage and it cannot be cut down.
Also in my case it works fast and I don't see any delays, but i test on Core i7, not Core Duo.

We should warn user that tracking ad filters statistics could slow our extension down.

    Bug report:
Chromium (Ubuntu 13.10 x64) crash when browsing to a site where AdGuard will block. Only one tab is open at the crash. Doesn't happen when there is another tab open.

Thanks for the information. I don't have a problem to run Adguard with the option disabled but as I understand this option is helpful in removing the rules that are no longer used. Anyway I am very pleased from your honest approach, to admit an issue without rather blaming others. Very good!

Have a question yet ... How it is with the custom (user) rules? When I add a rule using "Block ad on this website" is this rule somehow automatically conveyed you and added to your database or that rule stays only on my machine?

The rule stays only on your machine only. But if "Send statistics for ad filters usage" option is enabled -- the stats on your custom filter rule usage will be sent along with others.

Hmmm I thought so, it means that you won't profit from my custom rules when I can't, due to the performance reasons, to have this option enabled. Maybe I could export my list from time to time and send it to you via mail.

Request: Make the "Filter Log" available when clicking the extension. The current way is to go to settings and scroll down, which is a bit of work.

avatar, I think this apply to Chrome and Opera as well, as what AdGuard do is close the offending tab and open a new one with a warning. Thus, if only one tab is open, it will close ("crash") the browser.

I understand now what's the problem, thank you!

We'll think about it. At least we'll add "Miscellaneous" item to the Settings tab top navigation bar.

Trying it now, however, it's not blocking Google search ads.
