    I guess Windows XP market share is too big for AV industry to stop supporting this OS.

    Basically everyone will support Xp except Microsoft itself (with MSE). So much fuss about it where no one should really care.

    I believe they're doing that primarily for users in countries such as China and India.
    Interesting that Microsoft will offer support knowing that a (reportedly) very large percentage of the running installs in that part of the world are pirated copies of XP.
    I've read that they (MS) are offering support so to mitigate the effects of millions of computers running pirated XP being exploited and used for DDoS or some other form of web warfare.

    Now there's a scary thought, ie millions of computers running XP (pirated or not) converted into giant botnets.

    As far as I know, installing MSE requires a genuine Windows validation, so I doubt that MS is targeting pirated XP with their extension offer.

    We already have botnets of several hundred thousand units and larger, made with supported operating systems. Those include Windows 7, 8, and linux servers. The end of support for XP will make little or no difference in the size of botnets.

    As the linked article from my previous post referred and also from other articles detailing the 'end' of Microsoft support for XP;
    support for XP is still readily available to select corporate and government clients- but for a steep price.
