Today I tried downloading the BOClean 4.12 update today and couldnt. The BOClean Update screen would show "not responding in taskmanager same with BOClean 4.12 module. So today I had to manually update the file. Is there a probelm with the server?

The only problem I ever had was in this thread I started a ways back.
A nonwindows Firewall cured it.

Hi,
I thought that I knew something about BOClean, but I guess that I have now a question....
You said that you updated manually.
Is that still possible with version 4.12 ?
Look at http://www.nsclean.com/update.html
When that site is talking about downloading via HTTP, it says:
-{ Quote: "
THESE UPDATES ARE FOR BOCLEAN 4.11 *ONLY*
" }-
See screenshot from my system with latest BOClean filedate

Hi The Hammer,
May I ask a question, just to be sure that I understand it right?
(sorry for asking :-[ )
There are two things when we are talking about manually updating:
1.
You double-left-click your BOClean icon and then you click "Check for update".
You still go through ftp.
It is the same as when BOClean updates itself (in case you have set it up in that default way).
2.
That old way by using the HTTP-download-way manually when you go to that BOClean site, which I mentioned earlier.
1. and 2. are two completely different ways !
1. uses ftp and 2. uses HTTP
As far as I could see way 2. is only for version 4.11 (according to that site).
And we all know that version 4.11 is now obsolete.
So my question:
Are you sure that you were using way 2. with version 4.12 ?
Thanks !
Cheers, Jan.

http://www.nsclean.com/boc412.xvu
I figured out the problem! Since earlier I was configuring my router too block certain thing I unchecked the box for "FTP" and thats why BOClean wasnt connecting :-[ ...So now it works ;)

OK, to add some more and I'm sorry that I didn't think of this earlier :-[
There is another way, indeed using HTTP :
That way is not mentioned at the BOClean site, as far as I could see.
Those who have subscribed to BOClean update notices by email, know about it.
And Nancy herself has posted it; example:
http://www.grc.com/x/news.exe?cmd=article&group=grc.news.latestversions&item=14758&utag=
So here it goes:
-{ Quote: "
To UPDATE your BOClean 4.12, doubleclick on your BOClean traybar icon
and select "check for update" to have BOClean 4.12 automatically collect
and install your update for you. BOClean 4.12 is designed to perform an
autoupdate if left configured to do so. If you have problems with the
autoupdate program, check your firewall settings - we use passive FTP
download instead of the more conventional HTTP method and some firewalls
may refuse to allow the program to connect unless you set rules to
permit the BOClean autoupdate program to collect them. Please consult
your firewall's instructions on how to do this if the update program is
stopped or crashed by your firewall.
You can also click down below to download directly from this email if
your security settings permit by using the link below:
ftp://ftp.nsclean.com/pub/boc412.xvu
or
http://www.nsclean.com/boc412.xvu
Click the above to download if you MUST collect the file from our site
instead of allowing BOClean 4.12 to do it for you. You will need to know
ahead of time where your existing BOC412.XVU file is located - you can
either use the "search for files/folders" on the start menu to determine
the location where the file you need to overwrite is, or you can look
for the location in BOClean's configuration screen where it lists
"Location of BOClean database." We recommend that you use the updater
within BOClean 4..12 to avoid the torture.
" }-
So yes, indeed, you can also use the HTTP download way with version 4.12 ;)
Apologies for confusion I might have caused :-[

Hi Brandon,
Our postings crossed.
Yes you're fully right: you can indeed use that link.
Once again: apologies to all of you for the confusion I might have caused :-[
(I still think that that BOClean site needs to be updated...).
Cheers, Jan.
