Pop Up Blockers?

I have been searching for any info at wilders on a good pop up blocker software. There seems to be no real discussion of it. I know it's security talk here but I thought for sure it would still be discussion. So far my searches on the forum have yeilded nothing that mentions particular software good or bad.

Do you have any suggestions on a pop up killer?
Your prompt reply is greatly appreciated as I need to address a growing problem.

My favourite popup blocker is my browser, Firebird, not exactly what you're after but worth considering ;)

I guess that pop-up stoppers hasn't been a real big topic of discussion, but, they have been mentioned in a couple places. Here are a couple threads, one specifically about pop-up blockers, and one that includes them along with other security software:

For myself, I use a simple one: AnalogX POW! (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pow.htm), however, it never sees any pop-ups because my primary pop-up defense is really tight security settings for the Internet Zone in Internet Explorer. (Active scripting disabled, along with Java and ActiveX)

I add any sites that need those capabilities into the Trusted Zone. I have maybe 30 sites in total in the Trusted Zone at this time. I add to this a Hosts file (SMartin's (http://www.smartin-designs.com/downloads.htm) and Hpguru's (http://asp.flaaten.dk/download/pafiledb.php?action=category&id=2) in a combined file), which blocks thousands of sites that host pop-ups, and also IE-SpyAd (http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD) (which basically adds a few thousand sites into the IE Restricted Zone - also known sources of pop-ups).

Of course, as you already know, Jacascript has to be activated for any pop up to pop up. That's one way to get rid of these.

With Javascript activated, you could consider WebWasher, which has a pop up filtering option (and I guess Proxo should have some similar feature (!?))... But with WW, it's either 'on' or 'off'-you either accept pop ups, or you refuse them all.

IMHO, Opera 7.11 is as flexible as could possibly be needed, and I trust it to do the job for me. Possible parameters include 'Disable pop ups', but 'Open only requested pop ups' I like best.

These options are easily accessed in the Opera's Quick Preferences Menu ((F12)

By the way, K-Meleon has an option entitled 'disable pop-up windows on page load/unload'.

So I guess Mozilla and the other Mozilla-related browsers also have some interesting options to solve the pop up problem.

But, as already mentioned by Tinribs, Opera, Mozilla and Mozilla relatives (K-Meleon, Phoenix, Firebird...) are browsers, which may not be of any help to you should you decide to stick to IE.

Specialist? No way! It’s just that I find Popups to be the most annoying thing on the Internet. I take it kind of personally that creeps out there want to slow down my surfing so as I discovered popup software I made a list to help save others all the searching around. I have not tried every product on the list. My favorite of all that I have tried is AdShield but you must go for the older version since the latest is now $30, Ouch! But the older version is also excellent. PopThis from the above poster also looks good and if I continue to keep this list I will add PopThis but I don’t know if I will continue because, fortunately, so many people are annoyed by Popups that new products are coming out all the time and it is getting really hard to keep up. The last link on my list has a VERY comprehensive list of Popup Killers, over seventy at last count. I also recommend that everyone reads an excellent posting by Jim Byrd on Usenet:

I am so thrilled with AdShield 1.2. In combination with hosts file I haven't seen a pop-up.
And it's so easy to just "add to block list".

Yeh, I guess I was feeling so tired when I signed up and couldn't come up w/anything. :)

Seems no matter what I do I am unable to stop some pop ups. Especially Orbitz and Expedia. Any suggestions?
