after surfing, I check for spyware using Ad-aware 6.0. Despite having Spywareblaster installed and updated I can have as many as 97 bits of spyware on the system - especially after using Kazaa.
Why ??? ??? ???

Hi starkie,
SpywareBlaster protects against two specific types of spyware... First, it blocks a known list of spyware related ActiveX controls, (some of these can be really bad items such as premium dialers, among other things), and second, it also blocks a list of spyware related cookies (for users of IE 6.0).
There are other forms of spyware that tools like Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D will clean off your system which SpywareBlaster does not block. (Note that also using SpywareGuard would block an additional form of spyware - executable spyware installation kits - but, even with it installed, you should still use Ad-aware periodically.)
Now, if you can tell us the names of the various items found by Ad-Aware, we can tell you what other types of software might further protect your system...
I hope this helps to explain it.

thanks m8- most of the spyware was Brilliant Digital, also Cydoor and a lot of Ezula which spywareblaster is supposed to be blocking. Using XP Pro, if it helps

We'll need to see what Javacool says about this. He will probably need to know specifically which items from Brilliant Digital, Cydoor and Ezula were detected to determine if these are things SpywareBlaster can block.

Indeed - would you be able to post a log from an Ad-Aware scan with those items detected?
TIA. :)
