This very subject was discussed in another thread in which the general consensus was heavily in favour of NOD32.
To put things into perspective though, there have been numerous tests in the past showing AntiVir to be more or less on par with NOD in terms on detection, so things are not quite as clear cut as some would suggest. In fact both scanners have improved greatly recently and AntiVir has become surprisingly good at nabbing spyware laden trojans.
The best test is probably AV Comparatives, but to get a more realistic picture it is best to ignore DOS viruses etc and concentrate on the results for Trojans, Backdoors and Worms. Latest results were:-
Data removed per AV-Comparatives request for links to the site only.
So you can see that in the areas that really matter there is little to choose and both do particularly well.

Here are some more tests/opinions to look at:-

On resource use, both are light, but probably AntiVir is slightly lighter. The Premium version of AntiVir has spyware/Adware detection (but not the free version) and so too does NOD.
Since the Premium Version of AntiVir is using the same engine as the free version, you could always try out the free version to see how it compares with NOD.

Not that it bothers me, but I thought that nothing of the av-comparative could be used on other sites.

It is forbidden to provide the tables or results in full or in parts on other sites! Please just refer a link to www.av-comparatives.org
" }-
I also used the same kind of percentages to prove that KAV + McAfee were the winners of this test and all my percentages were removed by the mods.
I don't agree either with the quoted rule, because it makes it more difficult to discuss the av-comparatives results, but if that is the wish of the author, I don't have any problem with that.
I guess the author investigates daily the COMPLETE INTERNET to see if his rule has been respected on every website, which is of course impossible. Such a rule is absurd IMO.
Once you publish something on the internet, whatever it is, you're website will be copied and be used rightly or wrongly by those who are interested and you can't do anything about that, unless you remove your website.
