I am trying to create a new partition on my C drive. I have a 120 GB IDE drive with 78 GB free space.

I am using the Create Partition Wizard. After the software analyzes my disk space, I get a message stating that I do not have enough free space to create a partition. After that, the hard drive icon in Disk Director shows 0 GB free.

When I restart Disk Driector, I see I have 78 GB free again.

Creating a partition on my USB external drive seems to work fine. Is there some trick in creating a partition on C?

Are we talking about 78 GB of unallocated space (C partition being 42 GB), or are we talking about 78GB of free space on 120 G of C partition?

Hello RobR,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Partition and Disk Managing Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/).

The "Create Partition" wizard analyzes computer disks and partitions. If the wizard finds unallocated space, you will see the Action Selection wizard page.
It will ask you to select how to create a new partition:
- using disk unallocated space.
- using existing partitions free space

Please note that an unallocated space is the space not used by any existing partitions.

Thank you.
