Just rebooted my PC, and got the Microsoft yellow system tray icon shield shaped icon saying "New Updates are Available", asking me to click the balloon to install them.

Well, it's ONE update: GDI+ Detection Tool.....and I have to click Yes or No to accept the agreement.

Can someone please tell me what this tool is used for, and what it is?

(fyi - I installed Microsoft Office Pro 2003 a few hours earlier before I shut down the PC...would this be related to that, by any chance?)

-{ Quote: "As part of the September, 2004 Microsoft Security Bulletin release process, we have created the Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool that detects if you have any one of the Microsoft programs installed on your computer that are listed in the "Applies To" section. If the tool detects these programs, you will be redirected to a Web page that contains the latest security information and security bulletins." }-

I suspect that your recent install triggered the update as you surmised.

Yep, that was the case, Close_Hauled. It kind of caught me off guard, because I had never seen (or heard referrence to) this tool before.....but I needed to download a few security patches for Office.

Thanks for your reply, though......
