Knowing the difference from the standard to the extended virus database; is there really a difference for people like me who have ProcessGuard, Regdefend etc. I mean, is it still safe to use standard over extended - will the extended actually pic up more than normal? I am getting frustrated with the extended data base always notifying me of Mirc and other Remote Connecting Software I have installed.

Just add Mirc to your ignore list and use the extended database, in my opinion the extended database is what makes KAV so great.

In the limited time i've been using it, i thought the Redundant Database, which i have selected, includes the Riskware as well as everything else possible !

They call it "Riskware" but it is actually spyware, adware etc. When using the extended database KAV is near 100% effective in eradicating ALL malware.

Okay , gotcha! Will use the extended and just put the programs in the excluded list and hope it wont ask again for the same detections.

Just use the link in the warning when you wish to add to the exclusionslist:

The redundant isn't available anymore, the option just exist in the GUI, you get the extended when you choose it, they were withdrawn because they were almost 100% of value only to an sysadmin and you will not be less protected. :)

Yeah I know that much, but KAV seemed to find more instances of MIRC and VNC in my system restore files and kept popping up.

If you use VNC, try UltraVNC (http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net), it's far better and KAV ignores it.

Hi Don,
I thought i was enabling redundant as it seemed to make sense, but if they are not there i can't lol ! Well an error in the GUI is better than one in the Engine any day !
But that does mean i have the Extended now by default which is what i prefer over the Standard, as i have user Prompt ticked.
They sure do Update a lot don't they.
Thanks

Yes, if you have around 149000 signatures, then thats the extended, standard is around 140000. You might as well set it to extended.

Usually between 15 & 20 a day, 24 has happened a few times. :)
